Please re-release the previous games in a big collection for PS5 and PC, I will pay for copies on both systems

Listen, this is a good game. I do think that I had fun with it and if I were to consider this game as a standalone piece, I would probably recommend you play it.

However, it is not a good Ratchet & Clank game. Gone are the days where Ratchet was a snarky, yet lovable, protagonist who can get things done. Now, he is a bland and inoffensive cardboard cutout. The funky, spacepunk songs that would play on each level have been done away with to make room for forgettable symphonic scores that you could find on any royalty free music site. Forget about the levels and puzzles and clever designs that keep you searching for more: the levels are needlessly open world-ish, the puzzles can be skipped from the pause menu, and anything you would ever want to look for is on a map constantly.

The writing (while never truly a strong suit of the series) is especially sloppy, sappy, self-congratulatory, and UNCERTAIN. Seriously, this is one of the most beloved and successful videogame franchises in the PS library, the first to come to Steam, and the story is all about how unsure the characters are. Ratchet is unsure if he should look for his family, Rivet is unsure about whether she can trust people, Kit is unsure is she can be a hero, everyone waffles around when they talk about themselves but commends and celebrates everyone else around them. Seriously, this is some low-grade, forgettable, Disney Direct-to-video level of crap writing. Everyone is loud, everything is cheesy, the game is best played with low volume because not even the soundtrack can redeem it.

Worst of all, they broke things that worked perfectly well YEARS ago. In Ratchet & Clank: Going Commando, there was a battle arena planet. In every game since, there has been a battle arena planet. In this game, there are less arena battles and they are unlocked only at 3 separate occasions in the story, one of them right before the game ends. But that isn't the problem, the problem is the inconvenience of it all. Other Ratchet & Clank games knew that when you entered into the arena, you want to access the weapons store from the same menu. This game wants to be open world, yet there are only 1 or 2 weapons stores on each level, and in the case of the battle arena planet, it is like a 2 minute hike from the actual battle arena menu. Seriously, in their second game you could just press square. Here, it is a 4-minute round trip.

Wit, charm, writing, stakes, relationships, adventure, intrigue, doubling back, secrets, all of these things have been sacrificed in the name of making an open-ish world take on a game that never needed to be that in the first place.

I had fun, but the game is rated E 10+, not E for children only. Seriously, Puss in Boots: The Last Wish was a children's movie that still had ASTOUNDING writing. This feels like an everyone game but was written for babies. Like, I feel bad giving it a bad review. There are things to appreciate here. It is a good game, but it is a GRUELING experience if you listen to the dialogue for even half a second, and this has never been a problem before.

Fun game, bad Ratchet & Clank, and I am very disappointed.
