Quick Summary
Story: Replaying it after 8–9 years adds more insight, and the story still hits harder than expected. Strong voice acting, especially during phone conversations, makes the characters feel more grounded this time around.
Gameplay & Mechanics: Hacking remains the standout feature, allowing multiple approaches to missions. Parkour still feels smooth, while gunplay can be frustrating due to aggressive NPC lock-on.
Driving: Not bad by any means, just not as smooth as some other open-world games, and it takes a bit of time to get used to.
Technical Experience (PC): Occasional freezes and some visual issues initially, but no crashes. Community fixes resolved most problems.
DLC – Bad Blood: Surprisingly content-rich, with new hacking tools, a separate skill tree, and even a small new area added to the map during one of the main missions, which was a nice touch.
Overall: Not flawless, but a surprisingly solid replay in 2025 that still holds its own, made even better with the DLC included.

I decided to buy the complete edition of Watch Dogs on Steam since it was on sale. I had played the game before, but never revisited it properly, and wanted to experience it again in 2025.

A friend did mention that the graphics were toned down for optimization, and yes, that was noticeable almost immediately after launching the game.

At first, I was mostly roaming around Chicago and doing collectibles. That is when my main issue started showing up: light flickering, especially during daytime.


I initially tried the usual fixes people recommended online.
Some suggested turning off TXAA, others said lowering shadow quality might help. For a short while, I thought it worked, but the flickering always returned.

The solution was to keep GPU Max Buffered Frames set to 3 or below. After applying that setting and restarting the game, the issue completely disappeared. I have not seen the flickering again since.

I did experience a few occasional freezes as well. The game never crashed, but those moments were a bit annoying. Overall, once these issues were sorted, the game ran mostly fine.


The online feature appears to be a common problem with the Steam version of the game. Based on what other players mentioned, some had to contact Ubisoft Support to manually enable the online key.

I followed the same steps, raised a support ticket, and provided all the required details. The issue has now been escalated, and I am currently waiting for a response.

If online features do not work properly on the Steam version, this is likely the reason.


Replaying Watch Dogs after nearly 8–9 years was honestly a great experience. The story still holds up, and going through it again adds more context and understanding to the characters and events.

What stood out the most this time was the voice acting. Phone conversations in particular feel very well done, and certain characters come through emotionally in a way I did not fully appreciate during my first playthrough. It adds a lot to the atmosphere and helps sell the world.


Driving is probably one of the weaker parts of the game. It is not bad by any means, just not as smooth as some other open-world games, and it takes some time to adjust to.

Parkour, on the other hand, is something I really loved back then, and it still holds up surprisingly well today. Compared to many other open-world titles, it feels responsive and satisfying even now.

The hacking system remains the highlight. Being able to approach missions in multiple ways keeps things fresh, and the freedom it gives the player is still enjoyable.

Gunplay can be frustrating at times, especially with how NPCs lock on from long distances. That said, I really liked how NPC behavior changes based on your reputation. Whether you are seen as good or bad, people react differently, and cops get involved accordingly, which adds a nice layer of immersion.


If you are hunting collectibles like songs after finishing the main story, a simple tip that worked well for me: just walk around Mad Mile, especially near the harbour side. I managed to get two songs from NPCs there during free roaming.

I also picked up another song around Parker Square, so that spot is worth checking if you are missing a few.

To make this work more consistently, just keep walking and looping around the area so NPCs despawn and new ones spawn. Walk slowly, and avoid hacking other NPCs in between. That seemed to help trigger new song carriers faster.


Going into the Bad Blood DLC, I honestly was not expecting it to be longer than most DLCs out there, but it surprised me in a very good way.

The DLC adds a lot of extra content, including new hacking mechanics and utilities that were not present in the main game. Since you play as a different character, it comes with its own skill tree, which makes the experience feel fresh rather than recycled.

One thing I really liked was that the DLC introduces a small new area on the map as part of one of the main missions. It is not huge, but it was a nice touch and helped make the DLC feel more distinct.

If you buy the edition that includes the DLC, it is totally worth it. The amount of content here is solid. Honestly, if the main missions were just a bit longer, this could have almost stood on its own. Even so, the side missions do a great job of keeping you engaged in their own way.

Overall, it definitely surprised me, and I genuinely enjoyed completing it.

Sadly, I could not 100% complete the game at the time of writing this review. I had already raised a support ticket regarding the online issue, but there was no response yet. Funny enough, around the same time, Ubisoft Siege servers were reportedly having issues as well, so I am not sure if that caused additional delays with the ticket.


Watch Dogs is not perfect, but replaying it in 2025 reminded me why it stood out when it originally released. Despite some technical quirks and dated elements, the core experience still works, and both the main game and DLC remain enjoyable today.

sadly an overhated and forgotten game but it is sure worth playing until the end and i dont think ill ever play a game like this again. its unique in its style, creative plot, atmosphere and ambience, modernisation of its time and its nice to know theres another part. if its better in graphic and story or not doesnt really matter to me, i believe its just a game suited to meotionally invest in twin, ahead of its time and accurate to the current in plot- i feel like the worlds kinda starting to look like this game rn so its even more enjoyable and makes u actually think. :)
what i enjoyed was the way ur really playing aiden in a way you feel like youre the protagonist but aiden pearce is still aiden pearce with its own characteristics. gameplay is comfy, u feel tuff just freeroaming, there's some stuff to do when exploring but u can finish all exploration it mayyy get boring afterwards but u need to play some hours for that and i believe if u really look aout for details enjoy every moment and r done, the story is worht a replay frfr
