can't get started because of a bug

Game loads fine but cannot move forwards, only backwards using WASD keys (arrow keys do nothing)

Okay I got to the point where the creature is chasing me after killing the homeowner, but I can't seem to open the box in the bedroom and I'm not missing any items so I'm just super confused.

What do i do

potential spoilers so click away now if you dont want any. Ive currently unlocked the garage and have access to the router but have absolutely zero clue what to do next. ive unclogged the tub and nothing at all happens i was thinking maybe a key is supposed to be there or something but ive spent hours walking around and clicking everything i thought i could so i just dont know please if someone can tell me just the next step that would be appreciated...
