Why make so that every enemy interaction is slow and the low ceiling does not let me dodge without using the horrible cover system

The upgrades after the grenade don't change how you interact with the enemies, having an inconsistent damage up means that you need to still act as if it didn't exist
It has no story, only impressions of a story , something something rogue robots something something aliens
I got this game 6 years ago, I had such a frustrating time the first 5 min after boot up that it remained almost untouched in my account this entire time
