An old friend i grew up with in scouting who had delayed his eagle board of review to the point that, to put it simply, a lot of paperwork and red tape was required to even review him. Today He got his eagle COH, and he is 23. So, either way, congratulations to him. But that is not why i post this. Why i post this anouncment is to make a statement, and to make a lesson for all.

He was given his eagle badge and medal and other stuff, and gave out a few things to his friends and family, which is an old tradition in the troop.

Then he said, i would like to thank my mom, my troop, and my scoutmaster, and all my friends.

No mention of the dad, at all. None.

His dad was standing next to him, and looked so upset.

So, i make this post, not to sound annoyed, but rather, to teach all of you, and all who read this, to be grateful to both parents, if you still have them, and even if they passed, still be grateful for both, for all they have done, to help you, make you who you are, and who you can become. Thank them for being there for you, and for being your number 1 supporters in life. It normally takes two to get it done, so thank them both, not just your favorite

However, as i am no longer an leader in it, i chose to go to the coh as a friend, which his family happily allowed. Was quite funny looking at all the parents looking at me like "who the hell is this guy in a scout leader shirt" XD


As a side note. I am 25, and my parents are 67. I need to be grateful, and i need to cherish every moment i have with them. Both born in 1950. In 2020 they will be 70 and ill be 28. Think on that.
