ABOUT ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥

The bane of all graphical settings.

Who are we?
We are a group of Pissed... Off... GAMERS!! Who believe that awful Anti-aliasing in videogames has got to go.

What exactly is "TAA"?
TAA (AKA Temporal Anti-aliasing) is a type of Post-processed Anti-aliasing in which previous and present frames are blended to produce a final, jagged-edged free image. It is a very confusing process and to the layman this may sound like a perfectly good idea, but in reality it is essentially just blurring the screen to combat aliasing.

Every pixel is sampled once every frame, however the location of the samples varies from frame to frame. This inherent technique is what causes such intensive blurring. FXAA follows a similar philosophy, but is not as popular of a method as it used to be.

Why are we so mad?
The problem is that TAA is in every single modern game nowadays as a FORCED setting, no matter if it's from a small indie group or possibly even a big budget AAA studio; your game will be smeared in unavoidable ♥♥♥♥.

However, such a decision seems worse when you factor in that engines such as Unreal, later versions of Frostbite, IW and various other smaller frameworks have TAA as their generic AA method by default! How embarrassing.

Most of these engines have deferred rendering as the de-facto method for graphics processing, rather than forward rendering - therefore making multisampling unavailable (via separate lighting/world geometry); Hence the need for a different system, which TAA fills. Having these effects tied to the Anti-aliasing is also a huge pain when forcefully or natively disabling it, as it will break various things - namely transparency and LODs (RDR2 being a great example of this).

Keep in mind, this isn't accidental, this is intended behaviour from the developers and there are no shortage of excuses to take the easy way out. The aforementioned ""transparency"" aka dithering, is an inexpensive and easier remedy than alphas and essentially allows developers to cheap out, BUT, forces usage with blurry methods like TAA. Disabling the AA simply reveals the game's blemishes and developers are actively patching the ability to remove it due to this.

How can this be fixed?
An obvious solution would be to use a less blurry, albeit more resource intensive method such as SMAA, MLAA or CMAA - it really is that simple.

dont even get me started on DLSS

The Crew 2 and The Crew Motorfest have forced TAA, and devs actively fixed workarounds to turn it off, maybe add it to the list? Not sure about the first The Crew
