A lot of people have been asking about controller configs and other such related goods. So here's a definitive place to find out what goes where and in which slot!

Before you use your controller you'll have to log in to PSO, create your character, and log in. What's you're in you'll press F12 in order to open up your menu(From here you'll use your return key to select items). The path you'll want to take from here is as follows:

Options>pad button config>custom

Here you'll be met up with an array of options on each button(As with any PC game). If you're new to this then to change any button setup you just go to whichever one you want, hit enter to confirm, then press the corresponding button the gamepad to choose it for that configuration. The first few can be ignored as they should already be set up(Being the joystick/movement options). Going down the list you'll see something along the lines of 4 movement options of,"Up, down, left, right." These simply go to their corresponding D-pad directions.

Now the fun part. There's another set of options which involve an "Action palette." Each direction corresponds with a face button. So say you're configuring a 360 controller, the Action Palette left would go to X, palette middle would go to A, palette right would go to B, and palette up would go to Y.

Now you have options for "Prev. page" and "Next page." These are the simplest, they belong to the trigger keys. 'Prev' goes to left, while 'Next' goes to right. If your controller has 4 shoulder keys(Such as L1/L2 and R1/R2) then you can choose if you want to use the back set or the front set. I have heard from one user, however, that the back set aren't responding the the 360 controller. This might be an isolated event, but keep that in mind.

Finally you'll have "menu open/close" and "Menu open/menu decide." Now be careful, as you notice the first part is identical with both of these options, so you'll be wanting to look to the second half of each. The "Close" one you'll want to assign to the Select button, while the "Menu decide" you'll want assigned to the start button.
