These games need a Revive!

Does a good game have to die? Somepeople would say "yes" and keep going about their day, however we at We Play Dead Games happen to dissagree with that. A good game shouldn't stay dead. A good game should be accessable to many new people who probably havent heard of the game before.

Yes, its easy to just say that its over. Its easier to give up and call it a day, but I'm not here to make the easy choice. I'm here to make the choice that I think is right, and I think reviving these games would be right. At least in my opinion.

How to play Blacklight Retribution for FREE right now!

Blacklight: Retribution was an FPS that originally released in 2013. Its PS4 servers shut down in 2019, and its PC servers were taken offline just a few months ago (August 2025). However, thanks to vile techno-necromancy and the forbidden art of spending five minutes on Google, we can play it again!

With the tools above, you’ll have everything you need to jump back into Blacklight: Retribution. And the best part? Even if no one else is online, the game has solid offline options where you can play against bots. Beyond the usual deathmatch modes, it also includes a zombie horde mode called Onslaught a mode I spent a lot of time playing on the PS4 version, and one I’ll be diving into again as soon as I finish making this post.

Since there are tools for hosting servers and such, maybe we’ll even find time to play together. Who knows?

While you’re here, take a moment to check out my previous post about games like Battleborn, Overkill’s The Walking Dead, and Super Monday Night Combat. All of them were shut down or delisted, and all of them are still very playable and very enjoyable. Battleborn in particular is a standout, since you get access to all the characters and the complete campaign, making it an easy game to sink hours into.

I may need to make an updated post about Battleborn, actually. Apparently people are either getting the multiplayer working again, or already have it running with a few caveats. Either way, thanks for reading, and have a wonderful rest of the holiday season!

So, I'm sorry for the lack of updates. There's actually a great bit of news when it comes to dead games, and games that died but are still playable thanks to the community.

Unfortunately, I've been away due to family issues. But the worst seem to be behind us (thankfully), and I've regained my interest in searching for and cataloguing dead games. I'm planning on doing a bigger update soon, maybe on Fridays specifically or something, but for now I want to quickly list a few games that were shut down officially but are still playable thanks to server emulators.

A user asked for information on a game called Blacklight Retribution. I didn't even know it shut down, but a quick googling tells me its still playable. I invite everyone to do a bit of research if you're interested in FPS games, and in a few days I'll upload a dedicated post about it.

Second, a game called The Crew is fully playable offline thanks to a server emulator. This is the Ubisoft game that was shut down, delisted, and removed from owner's library. The very same one that inspired people to create the Stop Killing Games movement. As with Blacklight, I will be creating fully detailed posts related to playing these games, so stay tuned.

I'm happy this group still gets a bit of interest, and I apologize for not living up to any kind of expectations people may have related to this group. To be honest, the research really is fun, so I'll be spending more time on it in the future. I'll certainly try to anyway!

I wanted to let you know we still play SMNC sometimes on a private server. If you are not already part of the discord group and want to play SMNC again and feel some awesome nostalgia and see Bullseye again, shoot me a message! We usually try and get some games going on weekends!
