Beauty and the Beast is a 2017 American musical, romantic, fantasy, adventure film directed by Bill Condon. Written by Stephen Chbosky and Evan Spiliotopoulos. A co-production between Walt Disney Pictures and Mandeville Films, the film is a live-action remake of Disney's 1991 animated film of the same name. The film features an ensemble cast that includes Emma Watson and Dan Stevens as the titular characters, with Luke Evans, Kevin Kline, Josh Gad, Ewan McGregor, Stanley Tucci, Audra McDonald, Gugu Mbatha-Raw, Ian McKellen and Emma Thompson as the supporting roles.


Belle (Emma Watson) is taken prisoner by a fearsome Beast in his enchanted castle, who eventually falls in love with her. There, she learns that the Beast were a local aristocrat who is cursed by a mysterious sorceress with his servants into their current states as penance for their past callousness. Belle also tries to evade a narcissistic hunter who is obsessed to have her for himself, ultimately leading to a confrontation between her suitors.
