very niche but exactly what i wanted.

it took me 3 attempts over 4 years to finally understand and get into this game, it really is something else once everything clicks in your head.

A truly wonderful experience, the only game that has managed to recapture the same feeling i once had playing through the Half-Life series for the first time, despite being a different genre entirely. A well paced, epic adventure through a dark and failing facility with friends. in my experience the only somewhat annoying issue is the low FPS of distant entities' animations (presumably to save on PC resources) which would be nice to have an option for. The game itself plays like Prey (2017) set in the black mesa research facility, while also taking heavy inspiration from SCP. it's definitely fun on it's own but it's very hard to beat sitting down and committing to a play through with friends.

If only i could give a neutral review.
TLDR: a mile wide, an inch deep
on the face of it, this is a good, fun game. however:
i bought this game for the story mode, given that this is an epic 9 film saga, one would expect grand scale. this is not the case. individual episodes are horrifically rushed, epic battles that took up 5-10 minutes of movie screen time are now half the size and can be finished in only 1-2 minutes. the phantom menace fight between the gungan and droid armies consists of a whole 2 waves of 10 ish b1 droids, followed by a 30 second scripted catapult shooting gallery, that's it. you're often given hub areas to explore between missions, in which you will be lucky to find even 1 optional activity that can be completed without freeplay. the cutscenes are gold, the addition of VA's works infinitely in it's favour, however due to the game dragging you through at light speed like an excited child in a theme park, these cutscenes very rarely last more than 10 seconds. the scale of scenes seems to be off as well, with certain vehicles like the corellian corvette and lucrehulk control ship being shamelessly filled in by reduced size and complexity easy build models. there is very little spectacle to this game, and what spectacle it does have between mindlessly chasing waypoints 5 seconds down a corridor is simply wasted by showing it to you for 5 seconds then moving you on to more waypoints.

One admission i have to make however, is that this game, for some unknown reason, features lightsaber combat better than most other star wars titles on the market, in a lego game! go figure.

No maidens?

The full release has changed the game in a huge number of ways, with a now polished experience that takes heavy inspiration from SWAT 4. however, the AI updates have made the game a lot harder when the shooting starts as they all seem to be navy seals with a near zero reaction time. it's a blast with the AI and friends.

The game has a wonderful base, but right now it's just not worth it. imagine playing a BF conquest game in garrys mod on flatgrass, that's what this game is. guns have artificially increased recoil and spread in order to prevent them from lasering people across the map, which itself would not be an issue if maps had more line of sight blocking terrain or buildings. maps are far too open and flat leading to continual instances of large hordes of players slugging it out in every direction with no frontline, players spawning around, behind and often times directly in immediate line of sight of enemy players. 128 players sounds good on paper, but what that essentially boils down to is large amounts of running across empty terrain, doing nothing and getting sniped, before arriving at a capture point with so many players bottlenecked into it that it's worse than operation metro. kaliedoscope, one particularly egregious example, attempts to force all 128 players onto one rooftop objective roughly the size of a tennis court. i truly believe that the game has great potential, much like BF 3 and 4 before it, but right now, unless you just want to mess around with friends, save your money

Tiringly forced humor, very little help is given in the learning stages of the game with many unexplained features makes it very frustrating to play. strange fps drops occuring frequently on my hardware.
