The short: game's development has come to a complete crawl, and any development that does happen is directed to niche corners of the game, that 3% of people interact with, or to ruining the in game economy more.

COMBAT ISSUE:
All combat is impossible in multiplayer, since vets will obliterate you with 3000hr ship builds, and in solo, its very hard, and both offer very little pay out with high risk. instead you can mine a rock and make more money in 5min that you get in 10 hours of combat (if u never died) the only reason to fight is for grinding materials to upgrade modules.

MINING/ECONOMY:
Mining is the only really valid way to make money, its generally low risk, high reward, and pretty low price to enter, and the dev response is to simply have it make less money, just making the money economy more grindy and not buffing other systems enough, I played for 300hrs to get my first anaconda (one of the largest ships available) I gave specific instructions to a friend new to the game on mining and they got one in like less 20.

THARGOIDS:
OOoh cool aliens but first travel 40 min to meet them, get killed instantly, realize if you want to hunt them you need to get a glowy gun 80 min away in some alien ruins, spend 10 hours grinding said materials, spend 20 more doing weapon research and build research and getting a ship made to hunt thargoids. Go back to aliens spend 5hrs trying to hunt them, get gud, kill one and it gives you a 1/200 of what you spent, and for time you could have made 400 times as much mining, this sector of the game is locked off to the best of the best most will not touch it unless forced to for some random module.

SHIP BUILDING:
This plagued by all the money issues because you have to spend ALOT of money to get the ship and modules you want to start with but then you realize you can upgrade them at engineers for significant bonuses to stats, sending you on the worst fetch quest, and wiki/reddit scouring adventure known to man, finding an uberquantum lattice engine only available from the crashed anaconda, on poorion 5 500ly away, and you need 20 of them to get this one upgrade for this one module and will have to repeat this awful cycle repeatedly to max it out and then repeat for the other parts, while devs just get rid of exploits to make it harder, and about 1/4 of the time grinding is watching youtube videos, reading forums or game databases to find the most efficient way to get the material for a 20% shield capacity boost with no visual difference.

SHIP INTERIORS:
For a good bit the devs promised this as an out there but coming feature, something that will enchance the immersion of the game tenfold. BUT recently they said sorry not happening, stating that one of the reasons is they thought it would get boring, and tedious. This one statment has averted me from ever playing this game ever again, one of the only things this game had going for it was the beautiful surroundings, fidelity and immersion with manual landing, realistic flight, and stunning visuals (I know I said it twice) THE WHOLE GAME is based off other wise tedious and boring things becoming a joy immersed in the atmosphere of a fleshed out cosmos, I LIKE STARING AT ROCKS AND HOLDING DOWN M1 TO MINE THEM, because the game is that immersive and beautiful, this one statment has shown me just how out of touch the devs are with the game they can't even identify the main reason people play the game. Failing to come to the conclusion that walking around my ship among the stars, and enjoying the vast macrocosm of space would infact NOT get boring and tedious and is infact the only reason people play the game despite the issues, its the whole point of it

CONCLUSION:
To write a review this long requires alot of passion for the subject game, at its core Elite dangerous has great potential, but through an either idiotic board or development team, it turned to a hollow but beautiful skeleton, that could serve to a great game but instead hosts a crawl of mostly useless additions and monthly skins as well. and I lost the motivation to finish but I think you get the point if you actually read all of this.

A game has never made me this stressed out, relieved, or proud. Make sure you have friends though.

This game sucks, and the devs suck more, its an endless money trap to get spit on and forced to swallow about 90% of everything they put out is recycled in someway.
