All the fun, unique weapons that gave this game its stand-out identity eventually get nerfed into obsolescence

enjoy playing against the endless waves of teams that just stand on rooftops with ARs and SMGs that shred you faster than a melee weapon can before you even manage to get in close range

Hope to switch this review in the future but for the time being I cannot recommend buying this game

It is a $40 game with the monetization of a mobile app.

As of writing this review 3/12/2026, when you purchase this game as a new player, you will be around $200 dollars in DLC behind most other players. The new player experience is terrible and you will hit a paywall relatively early into your progression that locks you out of new and interesting equipment.

Sure, you *can* earn the premium currency to buy these warbonds through gameplay, but that is a luxury for the unemployed or the seriously dedicated. It will GENEROUSLY take you 4-6 hours of mundane grinding on low difficulty maps to earn a single warbond. It is monotonous, unfun, and designed to be that way to incentivize you to open your wallet

Arrowhead has slowly transitioned from releasing interesting new systems like weapons customization, or any new free stratagems and late game progression content in favor of pumping out paid warbonds of mediocre or recycled equipment that has already been in the game.

I think HD2 has a solid core, otherwise I wouldn't have put so many hours into it with friends. It can be a lot of fun, but at the moment, the predatory monetization, the lack of any real end-game content, the numerous bugs that have been unresolved in the game for *years*, and the pompous "we know better than the players" attitude that the community managers and devs seem to address their players with has effectively soured my opinion on this game.
