Clair Obscur : Expedition 33 is a game that takes you back to the nostalgic feeling of classic RPGs from the past — where every corner you explore is filled with hidden content. It’s packed with minigames just like the old Final Fantasy titles, but what makes Expedition 33 even better is how it blends that classic charm with modern gameplay (for now every game has a prairie system, right? lol).

Honestly, there were moments during the gameplay that strangely reminded me of the feeling I got while playing Sekiro. I’m pretty convinced the developers must be fans of FromSoftware. The game draws clear inspiration from Final Fantasy and Persona, and it fuses the strengths of both series in a beautifully seamless way.

However, the game still has some flaws when it comes to the world design — particularly in terms of navigation. There are moments where movement feels clunky, just like games from the old days (truly classic, in that sense). One thing I personally felt was missing — or maybe it was left out intentionally, I’m not sure — is a map. I often found myself getting lost in dungeons, spending quite a bit of time trying to find the way out.

Aside from the gameplay, I simply can’t go without mentioning the art direction — because this is honestly one of the most visually stunning games I’ve ever played. Every area feels enchanted, like it’s filled with magic. The environment design completely drew me into this particular art style; I absolutely fell in love with it.

The cutscenes are also meticulously crafted, with well-paced storytelling and key plot moments that really hit hard. They don’t drag on, they’re not excessive, but they leave a strong emotional impact.
This game had me in tears within the first hour of playing.

I haven’t been this emotionally invested in a game for a very long time.

P.S. That opening cutscene is easily one of the most beautiful and memorable scenes I’ve ever experienced in gaming.
P.S. I vote this game for GOTY 2025 please make more game like this
