Yakuza 4 is a certified ryu ga gotoku classic. Its more of what Yakuza 3 did right, with a bunch of new gameplay style changes. This being very evident in the games final parts where you play as the old protagonist from the previous games and it plays a little bit like Yakuza 3 but with the new revamped combat and balance changes to Kiryu, making it feel familiar yet better in a few ways. Its neato.

Gameplay - This is where i'd talk about the story, right before the gameplay section but this game's story can be a ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ at times. I mean juggling 4 protagonist's with their own unique story set in the streets of Tokyo can be quite the task, with a bunch of new characters being thrown at you in each chapter was pretty hard to follow for my first playthrough. So hard to follow I forgot important key moments until my 2nd playthrough. There are 4 protagonists you play as, and each character's part follows after the other in the timeline, all cultivating in an epic final chapter where they come together. Each character not only brought something interesting gameplay wise to the table, but story wise aswell. You get to peer through the eyes of a living legend, a cop, a loanshark, and an escaped convict. All adding to how you go about your daily life, like hiding through the sewers, responding to your police scanner, or being helped on the street by the denizons. It all made this iteration of Kamurocho one of my favorites in the ENTIRE SERIES. Despite all of that, I'd rate the story as really good, until those final chapter 2 chapters of the game, and even before that the structure was starting show its cracks with certain story beats. You know if you know. Aw ♥♥♥♥ it, this was a story section, appearantly I did have a lot to say.

REAL GAMEPLAY SECTION - So atmosphere and context are all dandy, but what about the combat, and the combat is straight bussin. Your gameplay style changes whenever you move onto the next protagonist and as said before, you go from protagonist to protagonist until the final chapter where you get access to all of them at once. So you will be constantly switching up your style throughout the story. I enjoyed all of the protagonist's gameplay styles, even some of the weaker character's due to some of the weird gimmicks they brought to the table. Kiryu is an absolute beast and i'd argue this is one of my favorite classic iterations of his style in the entire series. Akiyama is straight crack. You can combo for years with his standard rush and heavy attacks, but if combined with quickstep cancels you can turn that ♥♥♥♥ into an infinite. Def. my favorite character of the game hands down. Tanimura is about set ups and defense with his wide amount of heat actions and large heat bar to pull off said moves. Aswell, with his dumb fun parry move that has you slinging foes around like they are wet noodles. Saejima was my least favorite due to his very slow playstyle, and clunky combos but when you max him out he can turn out just as nutty as the other character's previously mentioned with big bursty dopamine combos and not being able to be staggered at all. You even got weapons available to specific characters with their own respective movesets if all of that still wasn't enough for you. I wont lie when saying it def. help spiced up future playthroughs.

Mini games - We got some old and some new mini games. Surprisingly enough, a bunch of the previous game's mini games that are being reused got either a more sleek hud like with the karaoke side content, got expanded upon like the golf mini game with the added equipment you can find and use, or are completely redone like the bowling mini game with the physics of the pins not being weird like it was previously. Some new mini games being table tennis which was ight, and fighter maker which was extremely unique. Having you train a handfull of pupils to become top tier fighters in the underground coliseum rather than you yourself competing like in the previous games. Surprisingly fun and challenging at times.

Its a bit unfortunate that we couldn't get the house of extras from the original for premium adventures like we got a bunch of the extra ♥♥♥♥ for Yakuza 3 with the rogue-like mode and clown chase ♥♥♥♥, very fun so sad to see that absent. But hey at least we got more haruka requests..... yippieeee....... But hey, other from that this ♥♥♥♥ is pristine! Buy this gaem.
