I wasn’t too sure about this game at first, but after I started to get geared and really understood the mechanics, it rapidly grew on me. It does look and feel quite dated, even with mods, but the gameplay is strong enough to overshadow that fact. The plotline is deceptively linear, with side quests and factions introduced to create a somewhat open-world experience. There’s a much weaker emphasis on survival than I initially thought there would be and a prominent sci-fi element. I was expecting more of a suspenseful survival sandbox type game, kinda like Tarkov or DayZ but singleplayer. Y’know, something with a little less story. I know it’s treasonous to say, but I really did get strong Fallout vibes as I got later into the game.

Mods I’d recommend for your first playthrough:

- Starter Pack (Compilation of bug fixes, visual overhauls, and QoL improvements)
- Weapon Addon Fix[drive.google.com] (Use this version as the default one hasn’t been updated to work with the ZRP bug fix)
- Groundcover Overhaul[www.nexusmods.com]
- Russian Audio
- Ingame CC (Again, use this version as the default one hasn’t been updated to work with the ZRP bug fix)
- Better SoC[sfx.thelazy.net] (Reshade preset. Turn off chromatic aberration and MXAO for the best experience)

Also be sure to set proper eye height and disable music.
