I never played this back in the day but I sincerely regret that. The DoW campaign is probably the best RTS campaign I've played in my life. Over CoH and Rome Total War IMO. The sheer amount of factions and units is stunning. There's so much depth and variety in this game and it still holds up really well in 2025.

My biggest gripes is that the AI is pretty easy on Hard in the campaign. You can pretty much win every mission by stalling for time, waiting until you can unlock super units, then roll your enemies without any fear of dying. I'll have to try to and play Insane but I was hoping Hard would be a bit more challenging with late game base attacks or really anything to make it difficult late game. It's still fun to steam roll though, don't get me wrong!

Another gripe is that it seems not every single texture/model were updated consistently. Some units look spectacular and others leave much to be desired, for example, Sindri the main villain at least in the beginning, his model is quite pixelated and blocky compared to Captain Gabriel Angelos model. I wish they would've refined all models the same and also environmental detail needs an ultra max setting because it's too low still.

In the end, this is an incredible RTS game. I'm so glad it was remastered and usable with modern display settings. Although they could've went for extra polish and refined difficulty, this is a stunningly fun game. If you like WH 40K and RTS games like WC3 and CoH, this is the perfect game for you.
