Cross Half-Life, a low-horror survival simulator, and the SCP Foundation and you get this game. I have spent *hours* just bopping along as a scientist with a few dozen ethically concerning experiments powering my base and equipment. Exploring the Cascade Facility is a treat.

In simple terms, it's XCom with a fixed roster, a bigger focus on melee combat, and an absurd level of customizability when it comes to passive skills.
I do recommend having a guide for finding masteries, beyond that, everything seems rather intuitive. Most mastery sets either complement their skills or reference them in flavor text/mechanics. Character skills are straight forward and have some additional benefits once you become aware of how masteries affect them.
Like Albus's Tornado Slash (the second melee skill) can ignore Impulse Fields, a mastery that provides One Shot Protection due to it hitting twice. And Albus's basic attack can also have a chance to ignore IF by giving him Swordstorm, which allows him to hit twice occasionally. Or a out the box method would be to use his ranged attack to slam them into a wall, stunning them so the enemy can be dispatched while they're stunned.
There are many paths to victory here, Ed-boy.
