Good game, but if you haven't played Dead Space, or one of the many Resident Evil games, or the Silent Hill 2 Remake, or Alan Wake 2, any of those would be a better use of your money (except Alan Wake 2 because its locked behind malware, however, it *is* a better game).

I suggest you wait until it goes on sale.

The combat is fun and addicting and the soundtrack is amazing, but the environments and linearity of the game combined with the complete lack of puzzles bring it down quite a bit. The atmosphere is good but so, so repetitive. Most areas in the game look and feel mostly the same. There are some cool backdrops but the hallways you're fighting in look identical.

Also, if you're at all familiar with survival horror games this one isn't extraordinarily hard. Shortly after getting the first essence I had 50 shotgun shells, 40+ pistol ammo and 10 healing items in my storage crate. Game is a cake walk on the default difficulty. Looking forward to seeing how the unlockable hard mode is. The inventory system hasn't bothered me with one exception: the bolt cutters. If you only take your pistol/shotgun and one extra stack of ammo, you will never have to leave items or use items in order to pick everything up (and leveling up your inventory every time you can). However, this means leaving the bolt cutters behind, so when you do come across a door with chains, you will have to backtrack for the bolt cutters or come back later. If you carry the bolt cutters at all times, you will frequently be faced with the choice of leaving items or using items you dont need to in order to carry everything. I chose to backtrack for the bolt cutters, which was slightly annoying.
