Amazing story, voice actors, and beast design. For its time, Witcher 1 is a solid game. Do not bother playing on hard, and just run through the story on Easy. There are no achievements to satisy the "Complete every game you own on Hard+ difficulty to feel better about yourself." I made the mistake of starting my first and only playthrough on the hardest, without realizing about no achievement.

I found my mistake about the end of Chapter 2, which was a cluster to get through. Witcher 1 does not do any handholding. You are forced to read quests throughly to complete most of them, as well as the lore and glossary books bought from the merchants in the world. Those books could definitely have been cheaper, or I wish they could have been sold for more value. Although I have the whole Witcher series, I wanted this to be my first, to understand the story, character and gameplay better. I am only on Chapter 3 now, after 21 hours of gameplay, and I am excited to move on. It is safe to say about 18 of those 21 hours were spent on rage quitting in Chapter 2, and losing progress because of game crashes. Do not forget to save after every monster encounter, or you will rely on autosaves that happens when you arrive to a new map (i.e. revisit the town).

The game does have cons, such as the crashes mentioned above, as well as over the top funny NPC voice lines, like *after a deep sigh* "Women...", Old Men who do nothing but complain about their lives, and that ♥♥♥♥♥ old hag in Shani's house. I hope to see her burn by the end of the game.

Every fail is worth the time you spend on Witcher 1.
