I’m only about 15 hours in, and Tainted Grail: The Fall of Avalon has already made a serious impression.

I’m a longtime Bethesda fan — Elder Scrolls and Fallout are my comfort games — but this genuinely caught me off guard. Not because it’s trying to copy those games, but because it understands what made them great and then pushes in its own direction.

The world feels dense, oppressive, and intentional. Exploration actually matters. You’re not just bouncing between quest markers — you’re piecing together a broken land through atmosphere, environmental storytelling, and morally gray decisions that don’t feel gamey. Every ruin, cave, and conversation feels like it exists for a reason.

Combat is rough around the edges, sure, but it’s weighty and dangerous in a way that fits the setting. You’re not a chosen god — you’re surviving. And that makes progression feel meaningful instead of automatic.

What really blows my mind is the scale of ambition. This doesn’t feel like an indie game punching above its weight — it feels like a studio that knew exactly what kind of RPG they wanted to make and committed fully. The writing, tone, and worldbuilding are confident in a way a lot of bigger-budget games just aren’t anymore.

Knowing this was made by a studio of around 50 people is honestly wild. There’s more soul, risk-taking, and identity here than in many modern AAA RPGs.

If you love dark fantasy, immersive RPGs, or games that trust the player to engage with the world instead of holding their hand, this is absolutely worth your time. 15 hours in, and it already feels like something special.
