This is an odd review to right but I want to throw my hat into the ring. This game honestly has me conflicted. I've decided to format this review in a positive negative neutral format where Ill use + - and = to represent each point. Lets begin.

+ It is nice to see what is basically a port of the old gen console edition as that was my most played PvZ version

- The game as a whole was rushed and launched with many bugs and missing features such as dynamic music

= The use of artificial up-scaling is something that I personally feel got too much negative focus but I will address that they were very disingenuous about changing their announcement from "No AI used" to "No generative AI used"

+ The core gameplay is still present and wasn't pumped with micro-transactions or ads like the mobile port.

- The game's price is questionable to be 4x more than GOTY edition. I could see 2x or even 3x the price but 4x is extreme

= I appreciate the patches that have been rolled out to fix many of the issues that people are calling out. That being said many of these were called out before launch and should have been addressed as such.

+ The new achievements are nice

- The game didn't have steam peer to peer multiplayer on launch (not even remote play)

= The new content is a mixed bag as RIP mode could have used new wave patterns and cloudy day seems dragged out. That being said both are good ideas at their base.

+ I see myself getting my moneys worth of playtime especially now since steam remote play is added

- The fact that the original devs were outright ignored despite showing desire to help was a huge sh** on their legacy and really shows the lack of care that was put in.

= Many people were angered by the nostalgia baiting this game had but I would argue that is more a flaw in the industry and popular culture as a whole rather than this game specifically.

Overall this is a strange review and I'll leave with my recomendation

I've opted to put yes as my recommendation but note that it comes with a caveat

I recommend the game if you match the criteria

1) You don't own GOTY edition
2) You have the desire and ability to play local coop
3) You have some disposable income or extra funds in your steam wallet
4) You are a big fan of PvZ and can put up with the knowledge that Artificial up-scaling was used
5) You are looking this game as a product rather than art

If you don't match 3-4 of these I would recommend GOTY edition instead.
