This game is incredibly old. Until they make a "remastered" version, don't expect to work it flawlessly on your PC.

I own a Windows 10 PC and it works almost without problems.

1) You need to change some of Fallout 3's properties and download Games for Windows Live .
Depending on what version of windows you have, you are going to have to change different properties.

This simple video should explain the steps you need to take if you own a Windows 10 PC.
If you have a different operating system, look for other youtube tutorials.

2) Although this is not needed, I highly suggest that you visit the Fallout 3 Nexus and download the "inoffical patch" as well as "archiveinvalidation invalidated" . They are trustworthy and reliable, believe me.

You can make it work on 8.1. I used to have the same problem but it can be easily fixed. You have to set the compatibility to Windows 7 when opening the game. The game should easily launch after that. It may happen that a blue Windows frame appears on your screen, but there's a way to fix that as well. Google for further instructions.
