When I heard this described as a slow game, I assumed that meant "slow-paced". No, no, no. That's absolutely wrong. It means you're slow (and clunky), and everything else is normal speed.

Coming from a background of Dark Souls games, everything feels so wrong about the combat. Enemy shields, especially large enemies are impervious to your attacks. You can wait until they attack, but there's no real window for a counter attack afterwards. Unlike you, the player, enemies suffer no delay between finishing an attack and blocking. The design of enemies feels like there's only one "right" way to fight them, and your choices are irrelevant. Most of all, LotF is punishing, but without the sense of "I know how I exactly how I messed up" found in the Souls games. I wanted to like this as an off-shoot of the Souls-style games, but the combat feels like drowning: slow and dreadful.

Or learn daze, spam it, 2 hand the highest strength weapon you have and spam jump attacks = easy mode. That doesn't make bosses any more exciting though.

the best part of being a scrub like me, is to say to someone Git Gud.
just bait their attacks... first playthrough, ultra weapons and armor.

bait and counter using 2handed during the attack. even bulwarks gets staggered

Totally agree! Shield enemies are rediculous, especially for a strength build. I was told to 1 attack when they attack 2 Parry them 3 Use prayer.
Well 1 results in me being hit and not them. Parry doesn't work full stop and prayer is as much use as a chocolate teapot, they attack it, you can get behind them, but they still block 9/10 attacks.

Then there's the faster enemies that litterally run circles around you, range attacks that can't be dodged, large enemies that spam 1 hit kill attacks, you can stack poise and still get stunned by every hit. Combat is painful.

I don't know if it's a bug or a mechanic, but I found the player character, occationally goes into a perminent slow motion state. This happened while I was fighting the Worshipper boss and died for what felt like the millionth time, everything else was at a normal speed, but my character, despite no change to stats or equipment was suddenly like he was over-enucumbered or something. After a reload it went back to normal.
