For anyone that is getting a black screen as soon as you start the game because of resolution problems, here's an easy fix that worked instantly for me.

Before launching the game, go to your computer resolution settings and set it to 1024 by 768 then attempt to launch the game from steam after changing resolution. Once you see the game launched successfully, go to the in game resolution settings, change it to the resolution of the monitor you own, in my case i have a 1440p monitor so I changed it to 2560 by 1440. Save the settings, then exit the game and change back the resolution from 1024 by 768 to whatever you set it in game, and re launch the game with you brand new resolution and working game! That should hopefully work for you guys.
