Kylo Ren
Kylo Ren
In the annals of the New Republic, few names carry as much weight—or as much sorrow—as Kylo Ren. His story is not just one of a fallen warrior, but of a legacy that became a prison.

Here is the lore of Ben Solo, the man who tried to "kill the past.

I. The Prince of Chandrila

Born: 5 ABY (The day the Galactic Concordance was signed, ending the Galactic Civil War).

Ben Solo was born into the highest tier of galactic royalty. The son of Princess Leia Organa and the legendary smuggler Han Solo, he was named after the hermit-general Obi-Wan "Ben" Kenobi. From the womb, Leia felt his power—describing it as a brilliant light, but one occasionally streaked with a "vein of darkness."

Unknown to his parents, the resurrected Emperor Palpatine (operating through the puppet Snoke) had been whispering into Ben’s mind since infancy, preying on his isolation and the crushing weight of the Skywalker name.

II. The Fall of the First Student

When Ben was ten, his parents sent him to train with his uncle, Luke Skywalker, at the newly formed Jedi Temple. He was Luke’s first and most gifted apprentice, but his time there was defined by secrets:

The Vader Secret: For 23 years, the truth of his grandfather’s identity (Darth Vader) was hidden from him. When the galaxy found out via a political scandal, Ben learned through the HoloNet—not his family. He felt betrayed, seeing himself as a "monster by blood."

The Fateful Night: In 28 ABY, sensing the darkness in Ben, Luke instinctively ignited his lightsaber over the sleeping boy. Though Luke immediately regretted it, Ben awoke to see his master ready to strike. Feeling utterly abandoned, Ben used the Force to bring the temple roof down on Luke.

The Destruction: While Ben stood outside, distraught, a massive lightning storm (likely summoned by Palpatine) leveled the temple, killing the remaining students. Ben believed he was the cause and fled to the only voice left in his head: Snoke.

III. The Birth of Kylo Ren

Ben sought out a group of dark-side marauders known as the Knights of Ren. Their leader, a scarred man named Ren, followed a philosophy of "The Ren"—the blade that consumes everything.

The Blood Initiation: To join, Ben had to provide a "good death." During a skirmish on Mimban, Ben killed Ren and assumed leadership of the group.

The Name: He discarded "Ben Solo" and chose the moniker Kylo Ren.

The Blade: He attempted to "bleed" his Kyber crystal to turn it red, but his inner conflict caused the crystal to crack. This resulted in the unstable, jagged blade seen in the films, requiring the distinctive crossguard vents to channel the excess heat.

The Empire
I. The Great Deception (19 BBY)

The Empire was not born from an external invasion, but from a "self-coup" within the Galactic Republic. Chancellor Palpatine—secretly the Sith Lord Darth Sidious—orchestrated the Clone Wars to create a crisis that only a dictator could solve.

Order 66: The transition began with the systematic execution of the Jedi Order, branded as "traitors" who had attempted to assassinate the Chancellor.

The Declaration of a New Order: Before a cheering Senate, Palpatine declared himself Emperor, promising that the "security and continuing stability" of the Empire would prevent another war. The galaxy, exhausted by years of fighting, gave up its freedom for the illusion of peace.

II. The Doctrine of Fear (The Tarkin Doctrine)

While the Republic relied on diplomacy, the Empire relied on Power Projection. This was codified by Grand Moff Tarkin in a philosophy known as the Tarkin Doctrine:

"Rule through the fear of force, rather than force itself."

This doctrine led to the construction of "Terror Weapons," most notably the Death Star. The logic was simple: if a single station could erase a planet, no system would dare whisper the word "rebellion."

Platform: Origin/PC (Native Platform) | Developer: DICE | Genre: Tactical Shooter / Hero Combat

Star Wars Battlefront II is perhaps the most famous "phoenix" story in modern gaming. While its 2017 launch was marred by a monetization scheme that became a global catalyst for loot box legislation, the game you play today is a completely different beast. It has evolved from a controversial experiment into the definitive Star Wars sandbox experience.

Note on Playtime: Having logged the majority of my hours on Origin

The Redemption Arc
The most important factor in a modern review of Battlefront II is acknowledging that the "pay-to-win" elements were completely excised years ago.

Fair Progression: Every Star Card, weapon, and ability is earned through gameplay and class experience.

The Celebration Edition: If you pick up this version, you receive years of cosmetic content (skins, emotes, and voice lines) that were once gated, allowing you to focus entirely on the combat.

Scale and Variety
The sheer volume of content added post-launch is staggering. The game successfully bridges all three eras (Prequel, Original, and Sequel) with a level of visual fidelity that still rivals titles released in 2025.

Capital Supremacy: The addition of this mode changed the game’s DNA, offering a non-linear, multi-stage battle that feels like the classic 2005 Battlefront on a massive scale.

Hero Play: The roster has expanded to include fan favorites like General Grievous, Obi-Wan Kenobi, Anakin Skywalker, and Count Dooku. Mastering a hero’s specific kit in Heroes vs. Villains remains a high-skill, high-reward highlight.

Immersive Atmosphere
DICE's use of photogrammetry and original sound assets ensures that this is the most "authentic" feeling Star Wars game on the market. Whether it’s the rain-slicked platforms of Kamino or the dense jungles of Felucia, the atmosphere is peerless.

Despite being nearly 15 years into its life cycle, Star Wars: The Old Republic (SWTOR) remains the definitive massively multiplayer experience for fans of the galaxy far, far away. While it has faced development hurdles and shifts in industry focus, the core "BioWare magic" continues to make it a standout title for narrative-driven RPG enthusiasts.

Narrative Depth: The Heart of the Experience
The crowning achievement of SWTOR is its commitment to storytelling. Unlike many MMOs where the story serves as a mere backdrop for grinding, SWTOR offers eight unique class stories, each with the depth of a full-scale single-player RPG.
