This is an awesome game, so in-depth and lots more stuff added since release. Highly recommended. It itches several wants from games


Below is my review from 2018
X4, although very different to pre-Rebirth games makes an interesting addition to the series. The game is difficult to get used to at the start, i’m 20 hours in i’m still struggling to find things with the complicated interface. Flying the ships are fun it’s great to be able to fly multiple ships again, it does seem however that there are not near as many ships available as the X3 games which is a shame.
The lack of plots is annoying, the previous games had a nice balance between sandbox and plotlines, X4 has tipped that balance towards sandbox which is not a totally bad thing (some players prefer that) I would like to see a plotline.
The universe itself is very small compared to X3, it’s great to see the gate system back but it’s had the shuffle button hit on it. I’m happy with the high speed travel, the mix between gates, highways and accelerators is good, and no loading between when going through any of them is wonderful.
I do get frustrated by not being able to find out how to do things so easily, but with time I expect I will enjoy this game even more.
Those skeptical of buying this game, or those who have bought it and played a few hours and given up I would advise to stick it out and get used to the game, no i’ve got used to how it works I am really starting to enjoy it, there are a few differences I would like to see but it won’t stop me playing the game.
