Spoilers! Play or read elsewhere if you plan on playing:

To set things straight, Antichamber IS really good! Every puzzle that I encountered was super enjoyable & intriguing, and the atmosphere in this game was so superb that I had to constantly remind myself this wasn't a horror game. The fear of the unknown hits harder when the puzzles themselves seem to know everything about you (props to the signs).

The one shortcoming Antichamber had was (ironically) something it didn't have. This game portrays itself to be some mysterious game with the promise of crazy things like mind-bending concepts and achieving the impossible; but in reality, it's just a puzzle game with wonderful atmosphere and no meaningful narrative. And the ending is unbefittingly shallow for how immersed one can get in these puzzles.

4/5 - Antichamber proved that it was great, but it stopped there...

Cult of the Lamb has a single thing going for it: gameplay.

What I mean to ask is if you've ever played a game without the following: a narrative, a purpose, or a lesson learned?
Cult of the Lamb has none of them. The entire experience is just... doing stuff. But it has plenty, and it's all phenomenal.

So if you were looking to mindlessly progress and enjoy a videogame, Cult of the Lamb would be an amazing option.

You know, when you explain why a game is good, your experience fundamentally changes.

SIGNALIS is barely defined by its horror themes: it's a Lovecraftian story with puzzle-solving aspects and horror elements that is best played by those who challenge themselves to find meaning out of everything. If you love interpretating things in your own way or obsessing over lore, then this game was made for people like you!

Nothing is too grandiose about Spiritfarer such that you have to feel prepared for anything. There is no riveting storyline or high-stakes gameplay; instead, there is a lack of consequences and a plethora of shipmates that you decide whether or not to care for. All of this culminates into an adventure so relaxing that you feel absolutely desensitized. And in this day and age... that's a pretty valuable experience.

The gameplay loop behind Spiritfarer comprises of taking in the atmosphere and passing the time with your beloved passengers. If that doesn't sound comforting or the first hour of gameplay isn't particularly captivating, then there's a good chance this game might not be for you.

I love games that go out of their way to mean something more than what they entail, whether it be through a relatable narrative with a valuable lesson or an extremely meta story line.
Inscryption accomplished that, but it forgot to be a game.

As someone who loves playing "card battler" games, Inscryption falls completely short of re-playable.
The combat system is barely expanded on and remains functionally the same throughout the game, the enemies don't inspire you to do anything new, and the entire game is almost tedious. If you know the struggle of encountering wild Pokémon ~200 times, you've understood the struggle of playing Inscryption. (This is an absolute shame when you go in after reading "roguelike" in the game's description...)

As for the story, there's no denying how awesome it is to experience a meta story-line... but that's all there is to Inscryption. The narrative completely relies on shock-value and has no other substance to it. You could find many games with MUCH better story-lines out there.

So... why is it popular? Maybe people bought into the hype and got impressed by the shocking yet shallow events in this game. My guess is that Inscryption is one of the only popular meta story-line games to exist on Steam.

All I 100% know is that, respectively, Inscryption is subpar in all of the categories that it advertises to.

2/5 - Daniel Mullins, the pioneer of the meta game trend?
