A devilishly clever game that lures you with it's premise and visuals, then hooks you with it's addictive puzzle solving loop and crazy story. The only game I've ever played that makes me feel like a detective.

Before I say anything about the actual gameplay, I should mention the performance on PC. If Elden Ring on console is a delicately cooked casserole, then the PC port is a half-baked chicken pie with pieces of an old car battery chucked in for some spice.

The actual game is pretty good. FromSoftware made an open-world that feels alive not so much because of the hours of content the player will come across, but because of all the content the player will inevitably miss. If you go in blind, you are sure to miss at least one hidden area of the map, 20 NPC questlines, 30 bosses (10 of them will probably be a magma wurm so don't worry too much), 200 items and a turtle with a priest hood. Or you can use the wiki and play through this game like you have an egregious case of OCD. The game has an amazing sense of discovery and that is going to carry you through the first playthrough of this game.

The rest of the gameplay is dark souls at it's best. There are numerous fun builds to try and the game encourages respecing, so you can try out at least 3 or 4 different builds at the end of one playthrough. There is a good variety of enemies scattered through the game, although many of the bosses are re-used, which makes some bosses lose their magic. The difficulty is well-paced in the beginning of the game, but the difficulty explodes when you get to Mountaintop of the Giants, where all the enemies wipe you like a stray cumstain and don't have the decency to stagger when you hit them repeatedly.

My closing remark for this review would have to be: I am Malenia, Blade of Miquella.
