This game is in heavy early access and doesn't seem like it will be out of it anytime soon. It's buggy, the performance isn't great in certain areas, the UI needs a lot of work (especially in smithing) and the story is very bare bones. If any of that is a hard pass for you, I'd wait until it's out of Early Access. That said, what is on display currently is a great and unique mix ideas with *enough* polish on the fundamentals to be an enjoyable experience. Leveling skills feels rewarding, and the combat is a lot of fun (with the caveat that I do not care for the crit system - without being able to dictate my melee swing direction crits are kinda annoying to land with certain weapons). The village building aspect as well as the overworld still seem like they need a lot more time in the oven but other than that there is a fun gameplay loop here.

I can confidently say that this is the only game where it is possible to have an army of vampire rats that like to read, cast spells, rob people, and explode and turn into imps when they die.

11/10 would become the rat king wizard again

This came has less of a learning curve and more of a learning mountain if you've never played a game like it.

That said, after about 4 hours I was finally starting to get used to the gameplay loop, and boy is it a fun one.

Never thought that killing a legendary croc would give me positive reputation with trees...

Updating this review to positive - well done devs! There hasn't been a wait time for weeks, and the game is just incredibly fun!
