As it stands, I do not recommend Eternity Egg. I’ve been following its development for over a year, so I was over the moon when it finally released. Of course, I understood that the game wouldn’t be in its full glory due to the Early Access launch, and I’m fine with that. However, this review is meant to help people understand that, at the time of writing, the game is a mess.

It is extremely buggy. Again, I understand that Early Access games are not always stable, but these bugs make the game unplayable at times. Progress can be completely erased, the game frequently freezes during dialogue, and in several sections the music would shut off entirely for me. As for movement, I can see how it could be very fun, but I personally found it tediously difficult, especially with no tutorial to ease the player into it. That may be a skill issue on my part, and not necessarily a flaw of the game itself. The enemies were also very confusing, and the combat mechanics feel off. The small eye enemies at the start have a strange dash attack that is extremely hard to evade; it feels like you have to get hit in order to defeat them.

That said, I do think the game has potential. I love the visuals, and the protagonist’s design is absolutely beautiful, it’s what first attracted me to the game. However, in its current state, I can’t recommend the game in good faith. I plan to revisit it when version 1.0 releases and update this review accordingly.
