It's hard to recommend this game when after a year's worth of improvements, the game still feels empty. Doesn't have the charm or some of the more rewarding parts of Vermintide's gameplay loop. They've done a lot post-launch, but the worst part is - it isn't enough.

To boot, it still has many of the esoteric and strange mechanics of Vermintide - the weird, hardly explained damage, armor, and health types, weird keywords and stats, an equally odd character and weapon upgrade system (which, to be fair, has improved since launch), and Traits (now Blessings) that often have niche effects. Furthermore, it's got plenty of unintuitive weapon variants, be that two swords that look real similar but have different movesets, or two rifles that preform almost identically. There's a lot in this game that contributes to a sort of miasma, where all the systems, stats, and keywords blur together into an idiosyncrasy-laden mess.

One last thing: frankly, with how poorly this game's launch was, and how empty this game feels well after said launch - it's an insult that the class DLCs even cost money! Nevermind 12 bucks each!

Tl;dr? It's overcomplicated for no good reason and lacks much of the charm and staying power of Vermintide. There's some promise in it, but I fear the developers truly believe they've "done enough" as it were and are content to pump out overpriced DLCs.

A mediocre game that was at least generally enjoyable now being screwed over for zero reason

This isn't an indie game with no money behind it ffs, fix your game!

This game absolutely rocks. It's got some progression and game play issues (That I plan on covering more deeply at a later date) but man do they pale in comparison to the raw atmosphere, fantastic narrative and engaging mechanics - and this game is all things considered fairly early in development.
I am endlessly excited for what is on the horizon and look forward to how this game evolves over time.
