"We'll never get anywhere by tampering with history."

You know it really is that good when you stay up into the wee hours of the night to finish the game. There is so, so much I could write about 1000xRESIST that many others have already posted here. I'm gonna keep it brief because, like, you absolutely want to be experiencing this one as blind as possible. What I will say is that 1000xRESIST deals with its handful of different themes in such wonderfully varied ways without ever feeling bloated. The team's previous experience in storytelling through performing and visual arts absolutely shows. For as profoundly serious as the story tends to be, though, there's still plenty of moments of lightheartedness and humor throughout that further endeared me to the characters and even gave me some laughs (see below). The soundtrack by Line Katcho and Drew Redman excellently serves its function of elevating the story. Watcher's recurring leitmotif in particular stands out to me--a seemingly simple composition that gives way to a whole host of different emotions in context. 1000xRESIST is pretty basic when it comes to gameplay mechanics, but I'm okay with that, as I feel like more complexities in the gameplay would be at odds with the absolutely vital complexities of the narrative. Even then, it perfectly justifies its medium of choice in the different ways the story is presented; I don't think it'd work nearly as well without being a video game. The only thing I took issue with throughout the game is the general lack of facial expression on the character models, only going further on occassion with some of the more important story beats. I can easily forgive that, however, because the fact that pretty much everything is fully voice acted. That voice acting is a bit more subdued than you might expect, which took a bit of getting used to for me, but it didn't take long for me to feel that the direction they went with complimented the story incredibly well. So yeah, please play 1000xRESIST . It's at a 4.4/5 avg. rating on Backloggd for a damn good reason--multiple damn good reasons, actually. I'll be there day one for whatever the talented folks at sunset visitor 斜陽過客 create next, and so should you. Hekki grace.
