I loved this game. Gameplay, story, graphics, sound were all excellent. I hunted down 100% of the achievements, but I unfortunately can't recommend the game due to the appalling handling of technical issues. If you try to play at a 16x10 aspect ratio parts of the game won't work correctly. EA support finally responded that these resolutions are not supported, and yet they're accessible from the in-game options. Unacceptable.

It's absolutely ridiculous that a AAA game with the financial backing of a huge publisher like EA, and the Star Wars brand behind it would leave so many problems unaddressed for so long, some of which 'm fairly certain will never be addressed at this point. It's a much larger shame when the game behind these issues is otherwise so good.

Early Access Review
- This is an EARLY ACCESS title, as such expect it to be "rough around the edges" -

This game is a rogue-lite 3d exploration platformer. It vibes hard. The visuals and music are charming and unique. It rewards exploration, and drip-feeds upgrades. It doesn't do a lot to explain it's own mechanics, and I'm not totally sure if that's by design, or due to it not being finished yet. Either way, there's a bit of learning-as-you-go which I enjoy to a degree. I'd say it could use a slight nudge in the direction of explaining things a bit more, but given how weird the world of this game is, the feeling is kind of fitting. I think the fighting mechanics could be tightened up a bit, as a lot of the time I wasn't sure how or why I killed things that I killed. Exploration and traversal is front-and-center though, and are already fun.

Being early access, there is certainly some jank, especially with respect to UI and using a controller. There were some times where a UI wouldn't register input from the controller and I had to reach for the mouse. Overall not too bad as long as a mouse is at least nearby.

Our world is on fire and nobody seems to notice. There may never have been, and may never be, a more salient message for young gamers to learn!

This game gets a lot right, but it does 2 things better than most (maybe any?) other games:

1. Integrating and embracing shooting in an "immersive sim"; I love immersive sims, even when they're being more 'stealth game' than they should, because I usually play that style anyway, but in this game gunning down everyone around you is fun and legitimately embraced as a valid strategy. It's maybe the immersive sim game that is least punishing for 'failing' stealth. You usually just need to mop up a few witnesses that are around and then it's back into low-key, though sometimes the gunfire chains the awareness of eternalists from half of the level and the whole thing devolves into a bloodbath. Even in those times I haven't yet felt punished for it, though I think there might be a few story wrinkles or optional rewards that you'd sacrifice if you never played stealthily.

2. Rewarding exploration; Tons of games do this well, but in this game every piece of "lore" that you can find to read actually contributes to a knowledge base that you're building to help you solve the puzzle. In most games I eventually stop reading the books and notes even if I like the world (Dishonored, Elder Scrolls) but in this game each piece of text is potentially pertinent to how I'm going to go about killing these mofos, and that intertwining of the gameplay with those little lore bits goes a LONG way to keeping me interested in seeking them out.

As I said It also does other things extremely well (some of which I've come to expect from Arkane games), but those two points stand out to me as why this is a must play game.

This is a very solid and enjoyable metroidvania game. It's longer than the first Ori game, but not nearly as long as something like Hollow Knight. Speaking of Hollow Knight, among this game's improvements over it's series debut are elements borrowed from that successful indie metroidvania.

It's fun but it's packed full of retro game BS.

I played through Episode Two the day it came out, and played it on and off after that. I just finished another playthrough (2020) and it holds up. Some of the best action and sequences the series has to offer.

This game is fairly short but has awesome visuals (including probably the best mo-cap I've ever seen) and narrative. The combat is not very complex, and it doesn't change as the game progresses, and in fact fairly large chunks of the game go without combat. This game isn't about being engaged by an awesome evolving combat system, it's much more about experiencing the unique narrative. I have over 8 hours in the game because at one point I restarted it. In actuality around 7 hours is enough time to 100% the game.

Awesome graphics, story, and good gameplay. This game is better than the first. I cannot recommend it however due to the technical implementation. With all the resources of Bethesda behind this title, it's not really acceptable that this game both released in and stayed in this state. I really hope if anyone tries to play this game, which is otherwise a great title, that they don't run into the myriad technical problems that I did. I was finally able to find a compromise and play the game by running it windowed. This game has a major problem with resolutions on my AMD hardware - ironic as it has the AMD sponsored logo at the beginning. This is all made worse by the fact that the first game was released in a similar state and also never improved. There were plenty of people complaining about these issues on the forums, but Machine Games and Bethesda chose to release this second game in a very similar state rather than improve upon the issues.
