Polyomino
A downloadable game
After years of playing solo-journaling RPGs and enjoying the escapism, creativity, and cozy fun, I was inspired to try and develop my own. While I have made some previous attempts, they were all kept private for my own personal enjoyment. However, this past year I dedicated time to creating a grid-based, map-making game, initially inspired by the board game Cartographers. There are some similar games out in the wild, but I hope my rules, variations, and personal illustrations provide a new experience that is both engaging and immersive.
Alas, I give you Polyomino! All you need to play is a standard deck of playing cards, two dice, something to write on, something to write with, and the downloadable contents available here. In Polyomino, you are placing shapes on a grid and slowly making a brand new world full of different terrains, buildings, characters, and background stories. The prompts and rules give you the freedom to be as detailed as you’d like, leaning into whatever fantasy or narrative your heart desires. This game was intended as a solo-experience, but could easily be passed around with friends and become a collaborative creation.
As this is my first ever public game, I encourage questions and feedback. If certain rules are unclear or if alterations are needed, then I intend on releasing updates to iron out the wrinkles, in the future.
So, light a candle, put on some music, and break out your favorite pen. I really hope you like Polyomino, and please share any playthroughs!

Eventually i ran out of steam because i was writing everything down as i went, maybe I'll continue the game after taking a break from writing. I drew about 15 cards before stopping.
I'll put it in my collection for later, so that i can eventually get to the "making characters" part. Thanks for the game!
Also if anyone is reading this and is on the fence about downloading it, I say that it's a great game for making little towns. Thumbs up!
Just played this game and created a city with an interesting story! The rules are described a bit confusingly, I needed to consult the examples a lot at first, but once I figured it out, it was not difficult. For some reason I re-shuffled the drawn cards back into the deck and only at the end I realised I should have removed the cards as they were drawn x) Wasn't a deal-breaker, but I did get the same card twice.
I really enjoyed the prompts and that they have different 'feeling' to them, they are not all the same loose category.
Love the art!
Could you maybe make the table of contents interactive, so it's easier to flip between different parts of the book?
Thanks so much for taking the time to give the game a try! I will take your suggestions into account for an update! I’m going to see if I can look back over the rules and simplify/better explain. Also, I think the interactive table of contents would be much more user-friendly! You’re the first comment on my first game, so I really appreciate the feedback! I’m glad you eventually got an interesting city and story from it!!!
