Tangled is the latest Disney movie to get the live-action treatment!

It was just announced that The Greatest Showman director Michael Gracey will be helming the upcoming live-action adaptation of the beloved 2010 animated film.

Mandy Moore voiced the role of Rapunzel in the animated movie, which grossed $592 million at the global box office and spawned the 2012 short film spin-off Tangled Ever After and the 2017 animated TV series Rapunzel’s Tangled Adventure.

Tangled features original songs by Alan Menken and Glenn Slater, including the Oscar-nominated and Grammy-winning song “I See the Light,” as well as “When Will My Life Begin?” and “Mother Knows Best.”

Deadline reports that Jennifer Kaytin Robinson, who wrote Thor: Love and Thunder for Disney and Do Revenge for Netflix, has written the script for the movie.

Gracey previously directed the smash hit movie The Greatest Showman and his next film Better Man hits theaters on Christmas Day.

The stars were out for the 2024 Governors Awards held at Dolby Theatre on Sunday evening (November 17) in Hollywood.

The annual event is held prior to the Oscars and celebrates the recipients of a select few of awards conferred by the Academy’s Board of Governors – the Irving G. Thalberg Memorial Award, the Jean Hersholt Humanitarian Award and the Honorary Award.

Many celebrities were in attendance at the event this year, including Angelina Jolie, Jennifer Lopez, Nicole Kidman, Daniel Craig, Elizabeth Olsen, pregnant Jennifer Lawrence, Felicity Jones, Marlee Matlin, and more.

The 50-year-old entertainer plays himself in the upcoming musical biopic about his life, while the 32-year-old actor portrays a younger Robbie.

Following the screening, Robbie took to the stage at a reception for the film for a surprise performance of his new original song, “Forbidden Road,” which was written just for the film.

Also in attendance at the premiere were writer, director and producer Michael Gracey, as well as Rebel Wilson and fiancée Ramona Agruma.

Here’s a synopsis: Better Man is based on the true story of the meteoric rise, dramatic fall, and remarkable resurgence of British pop superstar Robbie Williams, one of the greatest entertainers of all time. Under the visionary direction of Michael Gracey, the film is uniquely told from Williams’ perspective, capturing his signature wit and indomitable spirit. It follows Robbie’s journey from childhood, to being the youngest member of chart-topping boyband Take That, through to his unparalleled achievements as a record-breaking solo artist – all the while confronting the challenges that stratospheric fame and success can bring.

Better Man is set to debut in select theaters on Christmas day, December 25, with a wide release on January 17, 2025.

The Greatest Showman director Michael Gracey has announced that his next movie will be Better Man, a biopic about singer Robbie Williams.

Deadline reports that the film will follow the singer’s “ascent, exploring the experiences that made him who he is, and the demons he battled both on and off the stage as he became a huge star on the back of hits like ‘Angels.’”

Michael will be directing and producing the film. He also co-wrote the script with first-time screenwriters Oliver Cole and Simon Gleeson.

In an interview with Deadline, Michael revealed that Robbie‘s music will be included in the film, but he wouldn’t confirm if the singer himself will appear in it.

“As for how we represent Robbie in the film, that bit is top secret,” Michael said. “I want to do this in a really original way. I remember going to the cinema as a kid and there were films that blew me away and made me say as I sat there in the cinema, ‘I’ve never seen this before.’ I just want the audience to have that feeling. It’s so important when they watch this story, and look at the screen, that they literally think, I’ve never seen this before. All I can say is the approach is top secret, but the goal is to generate that feeling I just described. It’s this fantastical story, and I want to represent it in its harsh reality all the way to these moments of pure fantasy.”

Michael also revealed that Robbie‘s music will be re-recorded for the movie and it will seemingly be performed by whoever is playing the role.

“All Robbie’s songs will be re-sung, for the emotion of the moment,” he said. “If in his life he’s in the depths of despair, he’s not going to sing a song as cabaret flamboyant showmanship; it’s going to be broken, acapella, stripped down, because that’s where he is emotionally. In moments of pure joy, you’ll get songs sung in this whirlwind of hysteria. So essentially every song in the film, Robbie will sing, but it will be performed for the emotion of that moment, and that scene.”

The producers will be looking for a studio to buy the movie at the upcoming European Film Market event.

Zendaya is picture perfect while posing alongside her handsome co-stars Zac Efron and Hugh Jackman at the Australian premiere of their latest film The Greatest Showman held at The Star on Wednesday (December 20) in Sydney, Australia.

The 21-year-old actress and her leading men were joined at the event by their other cast mate Keala Settle, director Michael Gracey and Hugh‘s wife Deborra Lee-Furness, who stepped out to show her support.
