Visitor Information
NIST operates in two primary Campus locations, Gaithersburg, Maryland, and Boulder, Colorado.
NIST also has a remote location in Rockville, Maryland that is the National Cybersecurity Center of Excellence (NCCoE) that brings together experts from industry, government, and academia to address the real-world needs of securing complex IT systems and protecting the nation’s critical infrastructure.
NIST jointly operates research organizations in four additional locations explicitly established to promote cross-disciplinary collaborations that accelerate research results. See more about our other locations below.

There are no safety and health campus entry requirements for a NIST campus. However, if you are exhibiting symptoms consistent with a respiratory illness (e.g., fever over 100.4 oF, shortness of breath, cough, severe headache, new loss of taste or smell, sore throat, runny nose), you should refrain from coming on to campus. If you must come on to campus while exhibiting symptoms, please consider voluntarily implementing the following protocols to assist in minimizing the potential for spread of a respiratory virus at NIST:
- Practice proper hygiene, including frequent washing of or disinfecting hands;
- Wear a well-fitting mask (e.g., 3-ply medical/surgical mask) or respirator (e.g., KN95 or N95 used voluntarily); and
- Implement social distancing
