The Last Divine

You walk a path you were never meant to survive...

The Last Divine  is a text-based fantasy romance set in the medieval-inspired realm of Jeilene. It is a character-driven interactive fiction novel that loosely borrows from elements of Greek Mythology. The choices you make throughout will shape your personality, your abilities, and ultimately the trajectory of Jeilene's future. They will also influence the relationships you form, whether platonic, romantic, or something altogether more nefarious...

═════════════

The Story

Hunted by the King’s most ruthless assassins with powers you do not yet understand, you are thrust into a struggle for survival. Raised alone in a tower by your Master Galen since birth, you know little of the world beyond, and even less of why the birthmark on your chest has branded you for death. Your master warned you that this day would come. That, one day, you would be hunted. Even so, he's been evasive about what lies ahead- only that the answers you seek can be found in the heart of the capital. Your only guides are the uncertain allies you meet along the way- each carrying their own secrets.

═════════════

Jeilene

Sheltered as you are, you know little of Jeilene and its Immortal King, Icarus. Only what you've managed to glean from the books Galen would bring you during his trips to the nearby village, New Haven, for supplies. People whisper that he is The Last Divine, half-gods that once ruled the lands when food was plentiful and blood did not run as freely. Whether man or Divine, when he sends his huntsmen for you, you do the only thing you can to ensure that you see the next sunrise- you run.

═════════════

Customizable MC

Have the ability to fully customize MC, including name, pronouns, hair color, eye color, skin color, and height. The choices you make throughout the game will determine MC's personality, which is also customizable. Choose to play while pursuing love, or forego romance and focus on carving out your place in Jeilene while surviving the wrath of its Immortal King, Icarus, and his Huntsmen.

═════════════

The Love Interests

Romance Options are Gender Selectable

Kyliah - The Seer

Mysterious and enigmatic, Kyliah looks at you like you are their salvation- or their ruin. They've had visions of you long before your first meeting in the forest. Their usual soft-spoken nature only makes the fierceness with which they protect you even more unexpected.

Remus/RavenThe Knight

Hardened by years of battle and bloodshed, they're determined to put an end to the King's carnage- no matter the cost. But when they meet you, they start to question their convictions, and whether they're truly willing to pay the price peace demands.

Severin/SeveraThe Necromancer

Stoic and commanding, they spend more time with the dead than the living. Their interest in you is an exception to their self-imposed isolation. They would have you believe that their motivations are entirely selfish. But they knows things they shouldn't- about you, and the people that hunt you.

Axis/AthenaThe Dragon Rider

An unapologetic flirt, the only thing that burns hotter than their touch is their dragon. Though they take an immediate interest in you, they have their own reasons for offering to help you on your journey. But what do they hide behind their silver tongue and charming wit?

Trigger warnings for character violence, sexual situations, sexual content depending on game choices (can opt out of), and possible character death.

═════════════

Survival Stats

Play with 5 survival stats: hunger, thirst, vitality, arcane stability, and blood price, each of which must be managed as the player navigates a  world of forsaken gods and fractured magic. Or forego these survival elements and toggle survival stats off for a cozier gaming experience. (Default/playing via browser automatically enables playing with survival stats. Download the game below to play without them).  Uncover the secrets of Jeilene in a branching narrative where every choice matters.

═════════════

I have a question! The person who brings you back from the dead, is that Sev?

I'm loving the story and the characters thus far. I cannot wait for another chapter to be released

(also, if i could ask, would there possibly be an option to end up with more than one love interest..? I have my eye on at least two thus far and i don't think i could choose between them T - T)

This is incredible I'm LOVING the writing style and the characters are all so so good <3

I love it, I cant wait for more, great storyline and writing

This has a very interesting premise. I've enjoyed it so far and the mystery and plot is cooking nicely! I am so very curious where this is going!

I do want to point out that there's an error on the last choice along the cliffside. When you select "No one (but you feel a presence watching over you)β™₯". Then on the next page, it'll repeatedly post:

"Error: <<print>>: bad evaluation: Unexpected identifier 'now'
<<print $RO3Name> frowns. By now he and <<print $RO1Name>>"

And then when you press next, everyone's names goes to male version. Someone posted a screenshot already but I thought to point it out as well just in-case.

Anyways, I can't wait to read more! β™₯

(1 edit) (+2)

what happened here

(+1)

Love love love this game! Cant wait to play more. I eagerly await chapter 3 πŸ™

Pls give the option for normal font

(+2)

Hi, just letting you know there's an error in one of the chapters

(+1)

Hii! I have a question. I saw that you can disable survival stats if you download the game, but when I did I still couldn't find where to disable them. Is this a error, or am I good?

(1 edit) (+2)(-1)

Really good! But some notes I noticed while reading it:

  • There are a handful of erroneous pronouns (eg fem Raven being referred to as He), if I do a second playthrough I'll take notes of where they are so I can give more specific feedback.
  • The romance choices that list each character name and have to say "masc name/fem name" can actually change dynamically to match what name they have. You simply need an if statement to swap out two different links (eg <<if $Agender is "fem">>[[Athena|Passagename]]<<else>>[[Axis|Passagename]]<</if>>).

this is amazing, I can’t wait too see more!

Alright, def waiting for the next part to come out~ amazing work btw, keep it up!

(1 edit)

I just played it, I love it, 😭😭 take your time with developing the game, it's really great!!! πŸ₯Ήβ˜οΈI love kyliah omg,

Amazinggg

Hola! Disculpen las molestia ΒΏContiene traducciΓ³n al espaΓ±ol?

hope everything going well for you:)

I really like this story and eager to see the progress.

take care, dear author.

Thank you for the kind words :) I'm so glad you're enjoying The Last Divine, please take care as well!

(+2)

I just love this! Have u considered adding flirtung style options? Like shy vs bold?

(+1)

Ooh, I love the idea of different flirting style options. This could be a lot of fun seeing how each RO response to shy MC versus bold MC (especially bold MC x Kyliah or shy MC x Axis/Athena hahaha😈 ). I'll definitely look into adding this in a future update, thanks for the recommendation!

Yay! I'm so excited ur story's peak

(+1)

Just played through all that's available today and I honestly can't remember the last time a story gripped me so much! I kept thinking about it during work, wondering what turns the story lines might take and who the mc really is and why Galen kept them separate from the world all this time. Beautiful story!!

(5 edits)

Thank you, it's so nice to hear that you enjoyed The Last Divine! I'm glad the story's held your interest!I always worry about revealing too much haha, so I won't elaborate further yet- there have been a few hints, but the first significant clue will occur in chapter five :)

(+2)

I'm always afraid of comment sections and forums, but I had to let you know. This was amazing!! I absolutely love what you've done so far. I got so into the story so fast, and find myself thinking back to it even when I'm not playing. I'm so intrigued by Remus. Axis is a very close second, adore the school-girl giggles I get from him. But Remus! Ahhh! I'm so excited to see what you cook up. Fantastic job. <3

Thank you, that's so kind of you! So nice to see some love for Remus <3 He's not as quick to open up as the rest of the ROs, but once he does, he definitely makes it worth the wait!

(+1)

I only recently started this but I'm already hooked! The storytelling is so immersive and I love love love that you can customise your character. The storytelling keeps you in suspense in all the right ways. And I'm so excited for the next chapter!

Thank you! Immersion is something I always worry about, so I really appreciate your feedback on how TLD did with it! It's so hard to gauge immersion when the story exists in my head lol. I'm glad you like the current customization options so far :) I'd like to add even more character customization at some point (i.e.freckles, scars, ect), but that'll be in a later update (likely after chapter three or four!)

I'm so excited for future updates! Keep up the great work. I'll be cheering you on!

(1 edit) (+2)

I'm so intrigued like omg I want to thank you for making this masterpiece and I can't wait to read more. So far Axis is my favorite. I told myself not to get swayed by his flirtatious ways, but he's just too damn charming bro he already swooned me. I GOT GOT!!! LOL that's my man and I'm gonna stick beside him lmao. Also as someone who grew up loving "How to train your dragon" I've watched the movies and the series I'm so glad to see something different such as a dragon rider I also love dragons or any reptile for that matter. Also I usually don't like the music, but yours adds such a great touch to the interactive fiction. I'm still open to seeing if I might like somebody else since it's only on chapter 2 albeit axis will always have a special place in my heart I also love how different the characters are written. THANK YOU SERIOUSLY. CAN'T WAIT TO READ/PLAY MORE!!!

(1 edit)

Thank you for playing The Last Divine, I'm so happy you enjoyed the first couple chapters! Hehe Axis is one of my favorite characters to write <3 I'm glad you like him too! There will definitely be a few reveals in chapter four that may sway readers towards one character in particular, but I won't spoil who. Your comment was so much fun to read! The music is definitely something I've gone back and forth on in TLD specifically, so it's a relief to hear that you enjoyed it and felt it added to the narrative instead of distracting from it πŸ™‚

(+3)(-1)

still wondering which character will be yandere since you used yandere tag, btw good game! I can't wait for the next update!!β™₯️

(+2)

I don't want to give too much away for players who prefer to be surprised, but I will say there are 2 yanderes, and one of them involves the secret route (which will be unlocked in later chapters πŸ™‚)

OMG I didn't expect there to be 2 yandere characters, I thought there would only be 1 sksksk<3

(2 edits) (+1)

Could there maybe be a settings option, both to mute and unmute music, and the option to change the font to something more accessible? I genuinely am having a hard time reading the fancy text, and can't tell what it says. I've just now started the game, and am excited to get into it, but I would appreciate these features. :D (I'm playing in the itch.io desktop app by the way. I noticed there were light and dark versions in the file list, but I haven't a clue which one launched unfortunately lol)

Edit: As I play more, I notice that when I picked an option that added 3 logic to my stat, every time I go into one of the menu options (personality, relationships, etc), then click back to story, it'll bring me back to the text explaining the action I took, but I noticed it continuously adds 3 logic every time I go to one of the menu selections then hit back to story, because it brings me back to that text right after the choice, which is where the variable gets added to my stats. As in I should've only had 3 logic because of the choice I made, but if I keep clicking on a menu selection, then hitting back to story, I can just keep going and have like 12 logic without even progressing the story more, which seems a little unbalanced.

(+1)

I can't read with this font unfortunately, it would be great to have options. :(

Oh no, I'm so sorry that the font is causing issues! If you download the 'light' version, you can play the game with a beige background and font that should be much easier to read❀️

(+1)

Hi Sunnydrop00! The game automatically launches the dark version, but if you download the light version, that provides a beige background with black font, and text without any of the fancy print πŸ™‚ I'm still trying to work out that glitch with how you can just click back and then it allows players to get extra points in a certain category, hoping to have it done by the next update depending how busy work keeps me πŸ€£ That will definitely be something I go back and fix though, since that glitch can lead to issues with the Divine Dominions system in later chapters!

(+7)

Promising game with a very interesting story although there are a few bugs.

In general you should store the pronoun sets as ints and use if macros to replace the entire sentence.

<<if $pronouns == 0>>\

They are hurt.\

<<else if $pronouns == 1>>\

She is hurt.\

<<else>>\

He is hurt.\

<<endif>>

You also should use "\" at the end of lines to remove the empty space created by them.

At the end of the second chapter in the tavern shortly before leaving the city the pronouns get reset to "she/her".

(+1)

Hey, thank you so much for taking the time to leave this and explain why I'm having issues with the way I've coded pronouns!! πŸ™‚ This is incredibly helpful!!! β€οΈ Now I just need to carve out a bit of time to go in and correct everything πŸ€£ I've seen a couple twine sugarcube coding guides on itchio I may consult since it seems like I've done some of the coding a bit backwards haha.  Thanks again for taking the time to explain what I've been doing wrong, who knows how long it would've taken me to figure it out if left to my own devices🀣

(+1)

Hey! Your pronoun tips have been so helpful in the editing process, honestly I can't thank you enough. Are you comfortable with me crediting you for the tip in my next update post, or would you prefer to remain anonymous? No pressure either way, I just want to make sure I'm giving credit where credit is due depending on your preferenceπŸ™‚

(+1)

Hiii, I am really happy that my advice was useful. Handling the code side of pronouns had been a major annoyance for me when I started out using twine.

Also thank you so much for the offer to credit me. I would greatly appreciate being credited, but please don't feel pressured to do so quickly.

In any case, I hope you are doing well and I wish you luck on your game dev journey ^_^

Wow this was so good!! I came here looking for a fun game to play but I ended up finding a masterpiece?? πŸ™ The plot is rlly intriguing and the ROs are all so well-written and amazing, I like how different their personalities are and they all have their own charms. How come I like them all oh my?? even the King can't escape my eyes 🀣 If I gotta pick a fav thou, it's definitely Severin, I like my men mysterious and cool lmao. Looking forward to playing the next chapter, Ik it's gonna be great ❀

(+1)

Thank you, I'm so happy that you're enjoying the first couple chapters of TLD! πŸ™‚ Hehehe Severin is definitely a man with many mysteries and secrets (some of which will come out in the next few chapters, especially once the group arrives at his castle). There's one particular revelation I'm eager to see what people think of! Thank you for the kind words!❀️

It was an interesting read, even though slightly abrupt at times. Still, I am pretty confused how personality works. Its description is basically different between the downloaded and browser versions. I played the light to theme, no stats, and the personality description basically ignored the cunning stat that was the highest as long as any other stat rises to a value higher than zero.

Thank you so much for sharing your thoughts with me on the personality system! πŸ™‚ If you rated highest in cunning, then your personality type should have either been Blade Cloaked in Velvet or A Kiss of Fire and Ice depending on your other personality stats. Which personality title was showing for you? What differences did you notice between the browser version and the downloaded version? It's possibly I may have forgotten to update a part of the light version, I checked but I didn't see any differences. If you see some, please let me know and I'll go back and change those now πŸ™‚

Also, I would love your feedback on which parts felt abrupt to you, so that I can go in and smooth out those transitions! Thank you for taking the time to leave feedback to help me improve The Last Divine, I really appreciate it ❀️

(1 edit)

I don't go over much in the browser versions, so I probably was too rash to judge. As for the downloaded one, it was Kiss when it was the only one, then I got courage to like 2, and it changed to The Flame of The Wilds. Then to Sage of Libertine with a bit of logic. In the end, when it announced that that personality is locked,

The Sage of Libertine

Personality Description:

Patient and observant, you prefer to gain knowledge and understanding before you act. Though this often gives you the upper hand, at times this can lead you to hesitate when action is necessary.

Empathy: 3

Cunning: 8

Logic: 4

Bravery: 2

Intuition: 3

Charisma: 3

By the way, Blade Cloaked in velvet sounds so cool! Which stats can get me it?)

this is actually AMAZING. I love Axis sm

I can't wait for more!!! This was definitely one of my favorite interactive novels I've played!

(1 edit)

Thank you!πŸ™‚ I'm so glad you like Axis, he is definitely one of the funnest ROs to write❀️ And it makes me so happy to hear that The Last Divine is one of your favorite interactive fiction novels, I'm genuinely honored!

I love this story so so much πŸ₯ΉπŸ₯ΉπŸ₯ΉπŸ˜πŸ’– Looking forward to future updates. Fantastic work! πŸ’–

This would be amazing!!!!Thank you so muchπŸ’—

Hi! Thanks for taking the time to let me know about the they/them gender errorsπŸ™‚ The female pronouns in chapter two should be fixed in the latest build! Regarding the rest, right now sadly it's more of a skill issue on my end, I'm still learning the basics of coding and with they/them pronouns, because they affect more than just the variable/word itself, but also the grammar of the words that come before and after, making those changes becomes a lot more complex with the code itself. I am working on this though! And I hope to have it completely corrected by the next update πŸ™‚

(+3)

Its an interesting game and i enjoy the world and story but i cant help feeling that the mc is... useless? they lack any form of agency and cant seem to do anything themself, i know they dont understand the world around them but it really feels like you could give the mark to any of the other characters and there would be no point to the mc. also the personality system locks in a little too early for my tastes

(+2)

Thank you for sharing your thoughts on The Last Divine with me! Having the personality system lock in too soon was a concern for me, so I may consider extending that further depending on if that's the general consensus/experience people have when playing. And I understand how MC could come off as lacking agency in the beginning. This will change as MC grows and comes into their own (both in terms of their Divine Dominion and in being allowed the freedom to explore who they are beyond the walls of the tower). A major theme in TLD is "who the world tells you that you are" vs. "who you choose to be". It will be clearer how this is at play in later chapters as MC gains agency :)

(+1)

i'll keep an eye on this for now then, i can see it growing on me as the story continues

Hihi!!! Just want to say that this is a wonderful game!! It's really neat! However there seems to be a lot of gender bugs in the game, while playing with male pronouns selected most of the time- especially in chapter 2- everyone refers to the player with female pronouns occasionally (there's even a magician which gives you a rose who call the male player a lady) and it sorta put me off a bit or even confused me at times because I thought the characters were referring to a different female character. (I'm playing in the browser version though so maybe that is the issue?) Anyhow I love the theme of this game and the godly vibes/magic going on :DD can't wait to read more when it comes out!

Hi CuppoChinno, I appreciate you taking the time to play The Last Divine and I'm so glad you like it! I apologize for all the gender bugs, I will be going in tonight to correct those, so they should be taken care of soon. I can definitely understand how it would be confusing/jarring and break the immersion, thank you for giving TLD a chance in spite of that. Time to go troubleshoot:)

(+1)

hi here to say that i love the game so far ,every character look super interesting (the mc above everyone) i arrived at one point that finish with "fear".

Is that the end of the capter?

Again love the game very much can't wait to see more

I'm glad you're enjoying the game so far! Yes that's the end of chapter two, sorry about the lack of clarity on my end there. I'll be updating the most recent version to have "end of chapter two" listed there soon!

(+2)

I'm totally loving chapter 2! Even though I read the beta version, now it feels like I'm reading a whole different chapter, with all the new things that have been added to the public release. The only thing I didn't particularly like, was the fact it doesn't tell you when the chapter ends, but other than that, amazing game! Can't wait for the next chapters!!!

(+1)

Hi PLanManz, I'm so glad you like chapter two!!  Haha yeah I went back and added a lot of stuff, I'm glad it's different enough that you were still able to enjoy the experience even though you read the beta version :) Oh no, really?! I thought I put something at the end saying "end of chapter"! I went back and checked and its showing up on my current version on the desktop, did you read the chapter on your computer or on mobile?  Unless I somehow managed to upload a version where I didn't add that πŸ˜…

(+1)

I'm reading it on computer, so perhaps it's just the version I'm using? Maybe it's just the play in browser version. I still enjoyed reading it none the less, it's not much of a issue for me. Keep up the amazing work! :)

This is so bizarre! I played it in the browser on my computer on itchio to try and test it out, this is what I see on my last page:

Other people are seeing it pop up without the chapter two end part as well XD I'm so confused haha, maybe it's an issue with itchio not updating to the most recent version? I have to go back and edit some pronoun errors, so I'll completely remove this version and update it to make sure it's loading the right one. Thanks for pointing this out :) Otherwise I'd have no idea lol!

(+3)

I love this game so far! The premise is amazing and im already so hooked on the story.

However, I did come across a few pronoun errors(?) in turns 60 (When Kyliah was speaking to Axis), 66 (when the street magician speaks to mc), 75 (when the maid apologizes to mc), and 77 (when the guard was talking about mc to Remus). I had chosen he/him for my mc's pronouns and occasionally instead of 'he' it'll be 'she' while talking about mc

(+1)

I'm glad you're enjoying the game so far! Thank you for pointing out these errors!! I will go in and recode these before the next update. This is from a coding error on my end, I'm sorry about that! Thanks for taking the time to point out the turns where the pronoun errors are, this will make going back and correcting it so much easier haha.
