ABOUT [IR 30] wardroom

This is a international Total War clan. At the moment we are mainly playing Shogun 2 and Napoleon.

Our target is to be a clan with many fair players who want to learn more about tactics and other stuff.
If you like our idea of playing add one of the admins as a friend. After we checked if you fit into our clan you will be invited!

Our rules are:
- No camping
- Fair play
- Always be nice
So that is why our clan is a private clan.

IR 30 was founded when "Carl von Clausewitz", "Otto von Bismarck" and "Jean Lannes" played Napoleon: Total War together.
We are really proud to be international: We have some guys from Germany, some from Sweden, from USA. So if your english isn´t very good it should be no problem, I am sure there is a guy that speak your language!

Greetings,
The IR 30 wardroom clan

Unforuntately my "sketch" isn't shown as I wanted, but I hope it is still understandable.

I am aware of that the sketch supposes an inactive enemy. And in a real game it won't be easy as mentioned. It just is a scheme and can be used as a "core idea" an many situations.

To make one last comment: I, as you all might know, prefer a real "full attack": A combined attack of all units at the same time. In this scheme this is not the case. i just used the expressions "full attack" to make clear, that you have to move your whole army into position in order to prevent enemy counter attacks on your focal attacking point.

i hope this article is a bit useful and will help you in your battles. I really would be glad when I'll get some feedback (good or bad) and would be even more pleased when you'll start writing articles on you own (about any theme your want).

See you on my wing!

When I see that my opponent has a weak wing, I move all my units so near to the enemy, that he can't go the straight way to flank my wing without coming into my range, when I move quickly a few steps forward.

RW CCCCCCCCCCCCCCC LW

ELW CCCCCCCCCCCCCCC ERW
__________________________________________________________

So the main idea is, to bind enemy troops and to prevent them from interfering in my attack on the enemy weak spot. When he wants to help out now without taking casualties on his way, he has to withdraw units from the center and move them BEHIND his line on his extreme left wing:

RW CCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCC

CC ELW CCCCCCCCCCCCCCC
------------------------------------------------

that leaves a gap in his Center, what can be used. Of course your enemy can simply withdraw his wing, but then you can easily turn his Center. He can't move to any place without taking severe casualties.

When you attack with one wing, and try to avoid the enemy other wing or the center, it often looks like this (of course this is kept very simple, just to get the idea).

CCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCC LW

RW

ELW ECCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCC ELW

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

So you have the advantage there, but you can be outflanked easily, cause the enemy can move his units in a straight way to you flank:

CCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCC ELW

RW <- EC
<- EC

ELW ECCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCC

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

To avoid that and to get the full advantage of a slight edge, I prefer the "full attack."

1. Let's start with the pros and cons of a partial attack.
The partial attack can be executed in many ways. Usually a player tries to attack a player on a point, where he has more range or a slight advantage. Some do it by opportunity (Some lights get the oppurtunity to shoot at unscreened elite units, cav can ride down lights or art etc) some try to manoeuvre a part of their army the wing to attack a weak enemy wing. In both cases you will get a direct advantage over your enemy: some easy kills and nearly no risk to loose men on his own. So far, so good.
The contra here is, that the enemy can and will (when he is good= withdraw quickly.

Another Problem that occurs often is the following one:

RW CCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCC LF

ELW ECCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCC ELF

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

RW= Right wing ; LF= Left wing, C=Center
ELW= Enemy Left wing....

ey friends! Today I want to start a project. We all play for fun but we all want to improve our game. in order to do this, i decided to start a the "journal for advanced warfare" (JAW). In this "journal" (=comment) we can write down our thoughts about different aspects of the game. Here, questions like "how many cav should I choose?" or "Which nation is best on Ligny" can and should be discussed. To make the start, I will analyse a part of the game, that is very important to me.

"Full or partial attack?"

Every player has his own, unique stlye. At least the good have. But even they differ in a certain aspect of the game: Some attack with the full army (or at least with a very large part), some only on certain points with skirmishers or well timed cav attacks. I wondered, what is better. Is there a "better" tactic? Let's see!
