On the March ...

This morning we are starting our newest challenge over at FarmQuest.  Our theme for the next month, in addition to the underlying "Farm or Country" which is always there, is "Nocturnal Animals."

As soon as I saw this clip art, owl image (it may even be a photograph but AI digital is so good these days, who knows for sure?), I knew I had to use it for my DT card.  Doesn't he look like he's determined to get home quickly before the sun can get any higher?  It's obviously waaay past his nocturnal bedtime!

I cut the image with a Tonic Studios die, matted it with white CS (also cut with another Tonic Studios die from that same set), and added brown, gingham ribbon to the top and bottom.  I tied a separate bow and added it to the top strip of ribbon.  That ribbon has been in my stash for longer than I care to remember, lying about, forgotten in the midst of brighter ribbon colors.  It originally came from Really Reasonable Ribbon and still had the paper sleeve on it, proving it was unused.

I printed the sentiment, then cut it with an Avery Elle die.  I mounted everything onto a kraft card base.

I love making masculine cards because they can be kept pretty simple in design, compared to feminine cards which tend to get over embellished (in my house, at least!)   Even when I do add ribbon, I find that the ginghams can feel masculine, especially when they are in the brown and black families.  But the real reason I do so many masculine cards is that I have more guys in my family than gals.  :-D

     Challenges:

Hope to see you playing along in our challenge this time.  It runs until March 26 so you have plenty of time to create something with a country flair and get it entered into our challenge.  We love being inspired by you!

Forest Gratitude

Gratitude can take place anywhere and these animals that live in the woods are overflowing with a gratitude message.  What better day to share it than on Thanksgiving?  The card is my DT inspiration piece for FarmQuest and our challenge theme this fortnight is "Things found in the Woods."

The image on the card was originally an ad from an old newspaper (c 1945) which I wasn't willing to destroy.  So I photocopied it, added a bit of color with pencils and Ohuhu markers, then sponged it with pale ivory ink from a worn out marker.  I loved the "old" look that gave to the paper.  I tore the image rather than cut it with scissors because I thought it gave a more rustic feel.  I chose a kraft card base, again more rustic than a plain white CS.  The sentiment was cut with an Avery Elle die.  The brown bits on either side of the image piece are washi tape with leaf shapes punched out.

     Challenges:

Come play with us this challenge.  I know you must be making the last (first???) of your Christmas cards by now and what better way to get into a country feel and enter a card with "Things in the Woods?"  Happy Crafting.  NanaConnie

Woodland Critters

A second post today because I just had to share a tag I made using the mid-month freebie from Conjuror of Dreams for their Tag Challenge.  They do 2 tag challenges each month on their FB site and I didn't get one finished in time for the first challenge in November so I didn't want to be late with this one.  They offer freebies to use in the tag challenge and those alone make it totally worth playing.  :-D

Isn't this the cutest collection of woodland critters building their winter snowman?  I used kraft CS for the tab and made the shape myself by cutting a rectangle with a die from QuicKutz and then cutting the top corners with a punch from EK Success.  The image is pre-colored and I used it "as is" instead of printing it in grayscale and coloring it myself.  I added pearls to the sides and bottom, then added a "To/From" stamp to the back.  Red twine was added through the hole on top finished it off.

Three Kings

I've done a really simple card for the letter "K" at Beccy's Place 30 Days of Holidays challenges which are running every day in November.  I chose the 3 Kings image from Beccy's Place and put it onto a card front made with Kraft CS.

The images are pre-colored and merged together to make a single image.  The sentiment was added before printing.  I cut the image piece with a die from Cottage Cuts.  The 'strip' of glittered CS across the middle of the card is actually scrap bits from the basket of Christmas papers but I layered them on so that the empty space between them is covered by the image piece.

     Challenges:

See you again tomorrow, I hope.  This respiratory infection or virus, whatever it is, is really wearing me out!  The fatigue factor is definitely in charge.  :-D

Birthday Owl

In the last few months, my life has become so much more fun and interesting.  My sis-in-law and I now share a house and we are both crafty, creative people.  She has gotten me addicted to the various craft related posts found on YouTube (something I never browsed before this) and I've introduced her to coloring with alcohol markers (something she had never tried although she's a fantastic colorist with other media like pencil, watercolor, paints, etc.)

I haven't gotten her into the card making side yet, but she's happy to color and then let me make the cards.  So, today's post features one of our first collaborations - the coloring is hers and the card design is mine.

She colored a Maya Silvercat image with Ohuhu markers.  I cut the image and the kraft CS frame with dies from Tonic Studios.  The sentiment was cut with an Avery Elle die and matted with a scrap of kraft CS, trimmed to size.  The card front is plain, lime green CS.  CAS to show off the magnificent image!

     Challenges:

That's it for today but the rest of the week, we have some adorable Halloween and Thanksgiving cards to share.  Happy Crafting.  NanaConnie

Pumpkin Patch

Another Friday and another "Anything Goes" challenge begins at Crafty Catz this week.  Remember, in addition to the theme, we offer you the OPTION of a twist if you choose to use it and this week that twist is "Lots of Layers."  Our sponsor this week is Beccy's Place and, while Beccy generously provided images for the team to use, I pulled the ones I used from my own very extensive collection of Beccy's Place images.

Although I looked long and hard, I couldn't find the set in the store so it's possible they were retired.  But the set was called "Pumpkin Patch" and it contained both images called Pumpkin Patch Jack and Pumpkin Days.  The sentiment came from a set called Pumpkin Patch.

I colored the main pumpkin stack with Sanjoki markers and fussy cut him.  The sentiment was printed and also fussy cut.  The row of pumpkins in the background were colored with pencils and markers, then fussy cut with scissors.

The black layer is a die cut using  a reverse scallop die from QuicKutz and everything is mounted on dimensional dots, then layered onto a kraft card base.

I based the card layout on the sketch from Cheerful Sketches, reversed.

     Challenges:
Carlin's Card ... (Layers)

We really want to see you playing along this week so get something made and enter it into our challenge.  Remember, you can do lots of layers if you want but you can also just enter under the "Anything Goes" theme.  Happy Crafting.  NanaConnie

Nativity in Kraft

My sweet daughter bought me another new die this year, also from DIY Scrapbooking, and I wanted to test it right away, right out of the package.  I was siting at my craft desk and the closest paper to me was a scrap of kraft CS so I grabbed it and ran it through the Big Shot.  I really had no intention of using the cut but when I tossed it aside, it landed on some black CS and the design just popped!

Next thing I knew, I was trimming the black CS to size, gluing down the Nativity, and coloring the star with gold paint pen.  I made a square card from kraft CS and cut the sentiment from cream colored, sparkly CS, using a die from Die-Versions.  This made a really CAS card which looks far more complex than it is.

Not exactly traditional Christmas colors but I love the end result !

A Grateful Bunny

Creatures of all sorts and sizes are grateful for food and love and comfort.  They may not all celebrate it with a Thanksgiving feast but I thought this delightful bunny image from Kinda Cute could easily be turned into a gratitude/Thanksgiving card with the use of autumn colors and a proper sentiment.  :-D

I colored the image with ProMarkers and then cut it with a Cuts die.  I used a large scrap of kraft CS for the card front, and layered on a scrap piece of dp which had been cut with a lattice die from Tonic Studio.  I found a strip of olive green burlap, pulled a few threads from the sides, and put it on top of the lattice piece.  Everything was put on angles for a bit of visual interest.

I inked the edge of the image and used the threads of burlap to tie the bow, then added the image to everything else.

The Lioness

This is my third post this morning, but then, it's the first of the month when so many challenges begin.  You can scroll down if you want to see my two earlier posts.  This post features a card for Your Scrapbook Place.  We are sponsored this month by Fabrika Fantasy and I used a beautiful image called "Lioness" which they graciously provided.

I used my ProMarkers and water color paints to color the image, then cut it with a Spellbinders rectangle die.  The sentiment was printed and cut with an Avery Elle die.  I inked the edges of all the pieces with an onyx ink pad.

The card base is kraft CS, and the dp piece is heat embossed with clear, glittery EP.  I made a twine bow wrapped with fabric and attached it to the upper corner.  I'm going to use it for a Thanksgiving card for one of my grandkids.  The beautiful autumn colors seemed to lend themselves to Thanksgiving.  :-D

I used colors from the inspiration board at My Favorite Things.

     Challenges:

You have an entire month to play along in our "Anything Goes" challenge at Your Scrapbook Place so jump in and inspire us with your lovely creations.  Happy Crafting.  NanaConnie

Shipwrecked

Our latest challenge is starting at Creative Knockouts, where our theme for this challenge is "Anything Goes" and we're sponsored by Star Stampz.  They were generous and supplied the images used by the DT for our inspiration projects.  I used a sweet stamp called "Shipwrecked" and I'm going to use the card as a subtle message to my son who lives out of state and who hasn't called his momma in a month!  There's a "Get Well" sentiment inside because he must be sick. lol

I used ProMarkers and pencils to color the image, then cut it with a Sizzix scalloped circle die.  I cut another scalloped circle with a smaller die from that same set for the sentiment.  The card base is made with kraft CS, and I tied a double bow using baker's twine.

Star Stampz (layers/bow/sentiment + image)
World Wide ...

That's all for today.  I've injured my wrist and it's in a brace which makes typing very difficult (one handed and for a 'touch typist' that's painful!)  Hope to see you playing along with us.  Happy Crafting.  NanaConnie

Basketball Benny

I know most of you are used to lovely women, cute girls, fab flowers, and cuddly animals from Conie Fong but she has some wonderful boys, too!  Here's "Basketball Benny" and I adore him.   Not only can you get him by himself (in both right and left facing versions), but you can also get him in a bundle with "Skateboarding Benny" for a mere 25 cents more!

This is a 4" x 4" card and the image is about 2.75" high.  Just wanted you to know how small it was for coloring.  I do adore the ultra fine tips for ProMarkers but they are getting harder and harder to find.  Anybody else know of a resource for them?  :-D

Luck o' the Irish

It's the second Monday of the month and that means a new challenge is starting at Jan's Digi Stamps!  Our theme is always Anything Goes and you may use any image from any company.

Tomorrow is St. Patrick's Day (also my birthday!) and since my heritage is Irish on both sides of the family tree, I'm using an image & a sentiment from the JDS set called "Lucky Charm 776J."

I celebrate my heritage each year by sending St. Paddy's cards to my grandkids, reminding them that they are Irish.  As my father used to say, "Irishmen never father anything but Irishmen, regardless what's on the other side!"  lol

Butterfly Kisses at Conie Fong

I'm so enjoying my Guest Designer stint at Conie Fong and will truly miss it when I'm done.  I'd give anything to be a regular DT for Conie.  :-D  In any case, today I used "Butterfly Kisses" and I think she's an absolute delight to color!  Again, she's on sale!

Everything on the card was made from scraps and leftovers, including the CS on which the image and sentiment were printed.

10th Birthday Week at Catch the Bug

It's time for Bugaboo Stamps to celebrate their 10th year and there are daily challenges at Catch the Bug all week long.  Projects must be Birthday themed and follow the specific daily theme.  Today it's a Down on the Farm Birthday.  The image is from their new Down on the Farm set. which includes all kinds of farm animals and a farmer.  :-D

I started blogging 9 years ago, right after Bugaboo celebrated their 1st birthday. They were the first digis I ever saw (or bought) and they quickly became favorites of mine.  Don't ask me to pick just one favorite - in this case, I have to claim every Bugaboo image I ever got (and that's close to 1,000 by now!) is now a favorite.

I guess you could say this card is for someone who's "As Happy as a Pig in Mud" to be celebrating another birthday.  :-D

2 Layer CAS at Critter Chaos

Well, my plan to do a second post yesterday got sidetracked when everyone awoke at the same time and it was like a hoard of locusts landing on the WiFi so guess who got booted?  lol

It's the last challenge theme at Catch the Bug's Critter Chaos but you still have until the end of December to get cards entered.  The last theme is Keep It Simple with only 2 Layers plus Twine/ Ribbon.  In addition, you have to use the Friday Freebie image they have given to everyone.

Bounty of Blessings for QKR Stampede

Another Friday morning and that means another weekly challenge has started at QKR Stampede.  Our theme is always "Anything Goes" and you may use whatever image you like, whether it's from QKR or not.  However, you should know that any card entered which has a QKR (or Eureka Stamps - our sister company) image will be put into a separate draw and that increases your chances of winning by a huge margin!

Today, I used a QKR image (Cornstalk and Pumpkin) and a sentiment from Eureka Stamps (Bounty of Blessings.)  Together, they made a fabulous Thanksgiving card.
