On the March ...

This morning we are starting our newest challenge over at FarmQuest.  Our theme for the next month, in addition to the underlying "Farm or Country" which is always there, is "Nocturnal Animals."

As soon as I saw this clip art, owl image (it may even be a photograph but AI digital is so good these days, who knows for sure?), I knew I had to use it for my DT card.  Doesn't he look like he's determined to get home quickly before the sun can get any higher?  It's obviously waaay past his nocturnal bedtime!

I cut the image with a Tonic Studios die, matted it with white CS (also cut with another Tonic Studios die from that same set), and added brown, gingham ribbon to the top and bottom.  I tied a separate bow and added it to the top strip of ribbon.  That ribbon has been in my stash for longer than I care to remember, lying about, forgotten in the midst of brighter ribbon colors.  It originally came from Really Reasonable Ribbon and still had the paper sleeve on it, proving it was unused.

I printed the sentiment, then cut it with an Avery Elle die.  I mounted everything onto a kraft card base.

I love making masculine cards because they can be kept pretty simple in design, compared to feminine cards which tend to get over embellished (in my house, at least!)   Even when I do add ribbon, I find that the ginghams can feel masculine, especially when they are in the brown and black families.  But the real reason I do so many masculine cards is that I have more guys in my family than gals.  :-D

     Challenges:

Hope to see you playing along in our challenge this time.  It runs until March 26 so you have plenty of time to create something with a country flair and get it entered into our challenge.  We love being inspired by you!

Owl Always Love You

A new challenge has started over at FarmQuest General Store and our theme is always "Anything Goes."

I found this adorable clip art image of an owl couple and thought they'd make a cute Valentine card.  I printed the image in sepia tone, cut it with a Spellbinders die and then inked the edges.  The little heart dp came from a stack of calico prints by DCWV and I thought it was perfect!  My last touch was a hand tied bow of kitchen string.  Simple, quick and easy, and overall fun.  :-)

Bedtime on Christmas Eve

Welcome to another challenge at FarmQuest General Store where our theme is always "Anything Farm/Country Goes."  We are sponsored by QKR Stampede and the prize is the QKR Stampede images which have been used by the DT in their inspiration cards.  The challenge runs until the  November 6th so you have plenty of time to get an entry done.

For my card today, I used 'Night Time Owl' and decided to color him appropriately for a Christmas card.  The image is colored with Sanjoki markers and water colors.  I cut the image with a QuicKutz die and also cut the green CS frame around the image with a die one size larger.  The sentiment was printed and cut with an Avery Elle die.

The striped and polka dot dp, which looks like one piece, is actually made using scrap strips of two different papers.  The sparkly CS was also a leftover found in the basket of holiday scraps.

My "country" elements are: the owl, polka dots, & stripes.

Birthday Owl

In the last few months, my life has become so much more fun and interesting.  My sis-in-law and I now share a house and we are both crafty, creative people.  She has gotten me addicted to the various craft related posts found on YouTube (something I never browsed before this) and I've introduced her to coloring with alcohol markers (something she had never tried although she's a fantastic colorist with other media like pencil, watercolor, paints, etc.)

I haven't gotten her into the card making side yet, but she's happy to color and then let me make the cards.  So, today's post features one of our first collaborations - the coloring is hers and the card design is mine.

She colored a Maya Silvercat image with Ohuhu markers.  I cut the image and the kraft CS frame with dies from Tonic Studios.  The sentiment was cut with an Avery Elle die and matted with a scrap of kraft CS, trimmed to size.  The card front is plain, lime green CS.  CAS to show off the magnificent image!

That's it for today but the rest of the week, we have some adorable Halloween and Thanksgiving cards to share.  Happy Crafting.  NanaConnie

Happy St. Patrick's Day !

My favorite day of the year because I get to celebrate my birthday and that's especially fun since it's not only St. Patrick's Day but I'm Irish on both sides of the family tree.  :-D  I celebrate by making St. Pat's cards for everyone in my family.

Remember, on St. Patrick's Day, everyone gets to be Irish.  Just put an "O' " or a "Mc" in front of your last name and you're in.  :-D

The image featured on this card is another clip art which I printed in light grayscale, then colored with a combo of pencil, watercolors, and Sanjoki markers.  White highlights were done with a gel pen.  I cut the image with a Spellbinders die, then matted it with green glitter paper for a wee bit o' sparkle, also cut with a Spellbinders die.  The background paper is from a K & Co. stack.

Wishing you the best today and may the Luck of the Irish be with you!  Happy Crafting.  NanaConnie

Wise Old Bird

Sorry for the late posting but only by a few hours so I'm sure I'll be forgiven.  :-D

We have a new challenge that started earlier today over at FarmQuest, where we always want to see something farm/country and where we always have a specific theme.  Our theme this time is "Feathers" and you can enter anything with feathers from birds, poultry, fowl.

I found this delightful owl in a digital coloring book by Maya Silvercat and I reversed it before printing it.  I colored using my Sanjoki markers and cut both the image and the brown CS frame with QuicKutz dies.  The sentiment was printed, cut with an Avery Elle die, and matted with a tiny scrap of left over brown CS. The background was made using a bit from the scrap basket and I have no idea what company made it.  I've had it in my stash for quite a while and I couldn't locate the original stack, though I'm sure I still have it.

I hope we're going to see you playing along with us this time.  We love seeing what you create.  Happy Crafting.  NanaConnie

Percival

Time for making Halloween cards has arrived and you'll see a lot of them this month (and probably next month, too.)  I love the array of Halloween sets available at Beccy's Place, and it's one of the first places I go when I'm thinking Halloween.

This owl is called "Percival" and he can be found in the "Hocus Pocus" set.  The sentiment is also from Beccy's but a completely different set, "Scaredy Cats."  I merged the owl and the sentiment before printing, then colored Percival with my Sanjoki markers and white gel pen.  The image was cut with a QuicKutz die and I used a hand punch to clip the corners.

I found a scrap of polka dot dp and used it for the frame around the image.  The orange square was a QuicKutz shape left over from another project and it just looked like it needed to be used instead of going into the scrap basket.  The plaid strip was a scrap of digital paper from Trimgym.

Whoo Loves Ya?

I've been playing in the Outlaw Progressive Challenge for more than a decade now, and I think I've only missed 1 month in all that time, and that was due to being hospitalized with Covid pneumonia for nearly 3 weeks.  This month, we've been given a fantastic owl image from Sandra and I chose to color it using both my Sanjoki markers and water color paints, along with gel pen highlights.

After coloring it, I cut both the image and the frame with Memory Box dies.   The sentiment was cut with an Avery Elle die.  The frame was embossed using my Linen EF.   The dark blue background was made with water colors.   I added tiny, metallic brads to two of the corners and called it finished.  Nice, masculine, CAS design.

Night Owl

Guess what?  The QKR Stampede challenge is back!  Although the new store is not yet fully stocked, the challenge is ready for you to join in.  We've missed seeing all of you while we were on a break.

As usual, our theme is always "Anything Goes" and our challenges begin on the 1st and 15th of each month.  We offer two prizes each challenge; one for those who use either a QKR Stampede or Eureka Stamps digital image (3 image prize) and a second for those who use any other image (2 image prize.)

On my card today, I used a fun image called "Night Time Owl" and I colored him with ProMarkers.  I used a die from Gina Marie to cut the image, then inked the edges with a ProMarker.  The sentiment was printed and cut with an Avery Elle die.  The background dp is from a DCWV stack.  The bow is one of my hand-sewn, signature bows, 'dyed' with a marker to get the exact color I wanted.

Colors from My Favorite Things

We're so happy to be back!  We really hope you're going to come and play in our challenge these next two weeks.  We've missed seeing your creations and visiting your blogs.  :-D

Cowboy Owl

This card is doing double duty so you're going to see it today as my DT card for the FarmQuest challenge, where our theme for this challenge is Cowboy Boots, Spurs, or Hats.  Then, it'll serve as my  DT card tomorrow for QKR Stampede.  The image is from QKR and it's called "Cowboy digital stamp" and over there we always have an Anything Goes theme.

I colored the image using my watercolor paints, and added highlights with gel pens.  The image and the frame were both cut with Cuts stitched dies.  The background paper is actually vellum and it just worked so well with my colors in the image.  The sentiment was printed and cut with an Avery Elle die.  I love this crazy owl all dressed in his cowboy garb.  lol

     Challenges:

Be sure to visit both of the challenges and we hope you'll come and play along with us.  Happy Crafting.  NanaConnie

Final Exams

I know it's been several days since I posted anything but I'm recuperating from some serious respiratory problems and my crafting has been very limited.  Sorry.  Hopefully, I'll get back to normal soon.  :-D

Today I'm sharing 2 different cards, both made as encouragement for a college student facing some really difficult exams at the end of a semester.  This first one is for that horrendous period of study and anxiety leading up to the exams.

The wise old owl seemed appropriate for a school/education theme.  I'm pretty sure this was a digital coloring book image which I reduced in size.  The image and the CS framing were each cut with dies from Spellbinders.  The Christmas candy dp was from an old DCWV stack and it just had the perfect colors to complement the image.  The sentiment is mine alone.  :-D

Pre-exams

I loved the CAS design and used it again on the second card.  The same Spellbinders dies were used on the second card and the background dp is also DCWV.  The flower is from Petaloo.  Obviously, this one is for that joyous period when grades are assigned and all exams were successfully passed.  :-D

Christmas Owls and Stockings

I supposed all creatures hang stockings for Santa to fill and I remember seeing this darling Penny Black stamp for the first time.  I fell in love and it went right into my cart.  :-D   That was a few years back and I've used it before on Christmas cards but I used non-traditional colors.  I think this is the first time I've done it all in red and green.

Colored with ProMarkers and pencils, with gel pens for highlights.  I cut the image and the sentiment with Die-namics dies.  For the sentiment piece, I cut it once, then shifted the die and cut again to get the size/shape I needed.

The diagonal dp is a scrap left over from another project and is from a Graphic 45 stack.  The snowflake is cut from felt.  I kept the card as flat as possible because it's going to be mailed.

Autumn Owl

This is my first DT card for Get Creative and this one is for the October monthly challenge.  Our theme is "Anything Goes" but there's an optional twist of Holidays.  We have 3 marvelous sponsors this month; All Dressed Up, Goha Digital Stamps, and Oddball Stamps.  Each sponsor supplied images for the DT to use and I chose this marvelous Owl from Goha.

I used polychromos pencils and ProMarkers to color the owl, highlighted it with gel pens, then cut the image with an oval die from QuicKutz.  I printed and fussy cut the sentiment.  Both the deep brown CS and the yellow strip are dry embossed.  I kept with a very CAS design because this one will be mailed and I really wanted the image to take center stage.

     Challenges:

The challenge runs all month and will be our last one for this year.  The team takes a 2 month break in November and December so that they can focus on family over the holidays.  We sure hope to see you joining in and inspiring us with your creations.  Happy Crafting.  NanaConnie

No Fear of the Night

It's time for our February challenge at 2 Crafty Critter Crazies!   As usual, our theme is "Anything Goes with a Critter" and, once again, Sparkle n Sprinkle is our fabulous sponsor.  They generously provided images for our team members to use and I hope you're going to visit the main 2 Crafty Critter Crazies blog to see all of the inspiration the team is offering.

I used an incredible Owl set (Great Horned Owl) designed by our very own Donna E!  Isn't it gorgeous?

I colored the owl with ProMarkers and then used SnS EP to heat emboss the white areas on the owl's feathers and on the tree branch.  I cut the image and the frame with scalloped dies from Sizzix.  The deep blue dp is from 7 Gypsies and the flowery paper is a scrap of origami paper.

I printed and hand cut the sentiment (also part of the Great Horned Owl image set), inking the edges of it.  The CS behind the sentiment was a scrap left from die cutting the blue CS frame.  I simply lined up the scallop spaces and that helped to pop the sentiment off the background.  The card base is kraft CS.

I added one, hand-sewn, bow with a pearl for embellishment and decided it was beautifully finished.  I know I'm going to be using this set a lot.  There are so many options available.  Go check it out.

Give a Hoot

Good Morning, all.  I hope your week is going well and if it isn't, just think of today as being halfway to the weekend.  :-D  I'm sharing an owl which is a freebie image for the Progressive Challenge on the FB page over at Limited Runs.

I just knew he deserved rich, warm, fall colors so I grabbed my ProMarkers and started coloring.  When I finished that, I cut him with a scalloped circle die from Spellbinders and used a die one size larger to make the golden frame.  I layered those together, then added Stickles to his eyes and to the eyebrow feathers and tummy.

I printed and cut the sentiment, then matted it with a larger die cut (also Spellbinders), echoing the shape of the image.  To add just a bit more sparkle, I cut a strip of orange sparkle CS, trimmed the end into a point and added it to the sentiment piece.

Everything was layered onto a dark brown card base.  I thought it needed one last touch so I dug through my ribbon stash and found that lovely gold ribbon, tied it into a bow, and adhered it above the image.

Spooky Owl

I've spent most of my crafting time this weekend doing cards for progressive challenges but this one is for the blog challenge at Sasayaki Glitter rather than the progressive challenge on their FB page.

I love this adorable owl but am not sure he's really very spooky.  As long as he thinks he's spooking the world, I guess that's what matters.  :-D

He's been printed directly onto the card front and then colored with ProMarkers.  I made a shaped card with one of my newest Tattered Lace die sets.  It has multiple dies, all for making shaped cards, and all of them round with various lacy edges.  This is the largest one of the set and the first one I've used.  I colored the scallops with a Bright Orange ProMarker.  This is a one layer card and totally without any embellishment other than the scalloped edge.  Talk about CAS !

An extra day off is coming up tomorrow as Americans celebrate Columbus Day; a strange holiday when you realize the amount of evidence that he was anything but the first European to set foot on the North American continent.  But, I'll take any excuse to have another day to stay home and craft.  :-D  Happy Crafting.  NanaConnie

Christmas Owls

My daughter adores owls and has collected them in many forms for several years now.  I tend to think of them as creatures for fall but when I got this image (kindly stamped for me by a friend), I knew it would be perfect for her Christmas card this year.

I used ProMarkers to color the image, then cut it with my Fiskars paper cutter and inked the edges.  I chose papers from my favorite Christmas pad, "Father Christmas" by Bo Bunny.  It has such perfect shades of red and green, along with the light distressing which make delightful Christmas cards.

I added three wraps of very narrow, green, satin ribbon before layering on the image piece.  I cut two strips of stripped paper, glittered and embossed, and put those along the top and bottom.  The sentiment is from a kit I purchased a few years back, and the little wreath had been in my stash since last year.

For a tiny bit more sparkle, I added the diamond-shaped "gems" and at that point, it was finished.

New Hatchling

My Great-niece is expecting her first baby and reports are that it will be a boy.  So, I'm already thinking of quilt patterns and baby showers.  This card uses an adorable image of a new owl hatchling which I thought would make a great card for a new baby boy.  The image came from the Dragon's Lair Progressive Challenge (on their Facebook page.)

The little owlet is colored with chalks but I did his broken egg shell with ProMarkers.  I also used ProMarkers on the background.  I cut the image with one of my Pinpoint Rectangle dies from Memory Box.

I added two frames, one in navy blue and one in sky blue, both cut with Gina Marie dies.  Since this is a masculine card, I kept it really CAS, adding only the tiny blue hearts and a simple, hand-tied, polka dot bow.

Well, we're halfway to the work week and I've had a really busy three days so far.  As I glance at my calendar, it isn't going to get any quieter much before the weekend so for now, I'll just say "Happy Stamping" and be on my way.  :-D  NanaConnie
