Playing with my video camera

I almost always have my camera with me but I rarely use my video camera.  With Ian playing his last basketball game of his first season, I really wanted to take it with me and try to get some video of him playing so we would have it to remember forever.  So here is my iMovie video of Ian playing basketball.

Gotta Love This Winter

Another one of those days where really all you need a heavy sweatshirt and we decided to go out and ride our bikes!

Hopefully all the rain we've been getting means we'll have a pretty spring!!

My BOY SCOUT

Well my big boy has gotten his Arrow of Light and he doesn't want to wait anymore so yesterday I switched all his patches on his uniform and he went to his first BOY SCOUT meeting as a BOY SCOUT!  I can't believe how excited he was and I guess he sat with the senior patrol leader with his book and got his to sign off a bunch of stuff to get his SCOUT rank and he has his first Board of Review next Tuesday!

Can you believe he is almost as tall as me already!!!

Great day with Evan

We started off the day at Evan's first swimming lesson.  He did really great, he got to wear fins and they did the elementary backstroke and practiced surface diving.  After his lesson I took him out for lunch and he wanted to eat at Panda Express.  Fine by me, I can eat orange chicken and veggies!!  Finally we stopped at the shoe store and bought him some new running shoes since he is starting running club on Tuesday.  He picked out a neon yellow pair of Asics!  I can't believe he wears a size 3 already!

We also stopped off and bought a couple of fancy cupcakes for dessert tonight.  We ate them together while watching Ice Age: Continental Drift.  Evan has seen it before but it was one I haven't so we watched it together and had a great time!

National Shrine

The fifth grade class invited me to go with them to the National Shrine for their field trip.  The only thing I can say about it is WOW!!  It is truly the biggest church I have ever been in and it is just beautiful!!  So many little chapels dedicated to the Blessed Virgin Mary from countries all over the world.  So many beautiful mosaic on the walls and ceilings.  It was breathtaking!!  Here are a few photos from our trip!!

What we did over Presidents Day

We decided to take advantage of living in the DC area and took the boys to the Air & Space Museum.  We saw the IMAX movie Space Junk 3D, which was really something to make you think.  We went over to the Museum of the American Indian for lunch to try some of their yummy food (totally recommend the food there over any other location in the museums)!

Last Game of the Season

The boys played their last game in their home gym against the kids that are in Ian's Cub Scout den.  They ended up losing but it was a tough aggressive game.

Happy Valentine's Day

I'm less than a week late but it has been a busy week so I'm finally getting some photos that I took on Valentine's Day posted.

Cougars WIN!!

Ian's basketball team played their second to last game on Sunday evening against St. Joseph and they played really well!  They were ahead at the half and ended up winning 24-17 at the end.  Ian fouled once when he tried to get the ball away from the other team and he was aggressive in trying to get rebounds!

He was really happy afterwards and I was proud of how good a sport he was during the game and showed that he and the rest of his team can be good winners too!  Ian talked about wanting to play again next year and how much he will have to practice at the gym with Dad this summer.

Wolves visit Horses

Evan's Cub Scout den met up at Fort Myer and got a tour of the Caisson Stables.  They got to learn what the horses do and how the soldiers take care of them.

Arrow of Light and other things Cub Scout

Ian is so very excited to become a Boy Scout.  He went to another one of their meetings this week and they were working on their Klondike Derby skills and let him help out by being their injured man that they had to fix up.

Well on Friday we got one step closer to making it so that he can go to all the Boy Scout meetings and participate fully.  He was a awarded the Super Scouter badge for finishing all of the Webelos Activity pins.  And he also was awarded his Arrow of Light.

Now to just make sure all the paperwork gets filled properly and next month he will bridge over to the Boy Scouts.

In other scouting news, Evan was awarded the Cyber Chip for internet safety at the Pack meeting on Friday.

And afterwards all the cubs had a fake snowball fight with new socks that they brought to donate to the church.  I guess I can live with that kind of snow if it is the only kind we end up with this winter (KNOCK ON WOOD)!!

Ian's basketball team played a really well matched team last night!!  They were ahead at the half and up until the last seconds of the game they were tied.  They ended up losing the game by ONE POINT!!

This team has come so far this season!!

2013 Pinewood Derby

The boys have been working hard with Darren to make their Pinewood Derby cars beautiful and FAST!  Well the time has come for the races with Pack 624 at St Anns!  Here's some photos to document the day!  Ian won 3rd place in the Webelos II den and Evan won 1st place in the Wolf den.  Evan went on to race in the finals and ended up winning 1st place for the WHOLE PACK and gets to go to the district derby race in March!
